The company got a new office just in time for the "company summit".

I checked out the address on Google maps. It's a cinderblock building with the number spraypainted on the side, a battered cyclone fence in front, a cyclone gate off to the right side (apparently falling off) leading to a random battered shed, and immediately on the left is a dental office with bars on the windows. Also, the fence has spikes on top.

I'm terrified.

    Vintage battered look taken too far it seems! (+_+)

    @Root you kidding me (TT)

    Does your company make software for aspiring crackheads!?

    It's less scary irl than it looks, but I definitely do not want to be here at night.

    I'm glad I brought pepper spray and a knife πŸ˜–

    @irene It's real. It looks a little better now, though: a tiny statue out front, fresh rocks instead of dirt, a better fence.

    But the neighborhood is still scary. Like a group of people strutting around with super-saggy pants and red bandanas scary. And ofc the homeless sleeping in the parkinglot; those are less scary, but they certainly add to the ambience...

    @Root Not to nitpick your comment, but sometimes being homeless is not a choice. I'm homeless right now, living in my car. It's sad that society looks down on these people, who have had a rougher life than most. Then again, most homeless people don't even bother to be proactive to better their situation either. 😞

    Don't be scared, if your company cares about its employees, you'll be fine. :)

    Don't bring a knife, I can see so many things that can go wrong with that. Definitely bring the pepper spray.

    Also, just because some people look scary, doesn't mean they're dangerous. Just in case, you should probably have a friend or family member on speed dial.

    Stay safe. <3

    @Michelle I'm often the last one at the office. That won't be true anymore: it's too scary outside.

    Also: a group of people in a very bad area, all dressed like gang members, wearing gang colors, and strutting? If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, ... I'm going to avoid it.

    And knife? Maybe not the greatest, but if the pepper spray doesn't work (as it might well be a dud) I'd rather have something to defend myself with if necessary since I don't have my CCW (concealed carry permit) yet. Why? Because it's freaking scary?

    @Gogeta70 Of course not, but it certainly doesn't make it look like a better area. Also, it's a little unnerving when the obviously-crazy variety approach you and ask/demand money while simultaneously telling you an unintelligible story and making lots of exaggerated movements.

    @Root if I may ask, why did you company decided to move there?

    @yendenikhil
    a) it's like two miles from the previous office.
    b) the company lost access to the previous office space unexpectedly. (Subleased; other business closed suddenly)
    c) everyone was already flying in for a company get-together, and there was no office to meet at.
    d) boss is cheap. He'll spend $0.95 instead of $1 if he can.
