It baffles me that there is no option to embed a YouTube video in a Google Doc.

    But why tho.

    @D--M because I'm sending a Google Doc to someone with instructions for a project and I need to embed a YouTube video.

    what baffles me more is that you can't view the non printing characters in gdocs.

    your youtube problem is easy solvable, make a screenshot of the youtube video player add the picture to the document and link it to the video.

    @heyheni but I shouldn't have to take a screenshot and link it, it's goddamn 2018. Maybe that solution is acceptable in a GitHub readme file but Google Docs is supposed to be a consumer facing product, not something I need to use hacky work arounds on. Hell even Microsoft Word 2013 supports embedding YouTube videos, and YouTube isn't even their own fucking product.

    @DuckyMcDuckFace

    I hate when people embed shit into my word documents.

    I want to find them, then spoon their eyes out with a shovel.

    Embed the document in the video then send him the video.

    Why do I get the feeling this is all so you can print off a YouTube video for your grandson?

    @Arro frame by frame?

    Use Google Slides. It embedded videos (even non-YT ones) quite nicely.

    You can use as many slides as you want for the rest of the instructions or just one.
