Why these fucking companies don't support Linux on desktop and get rid of fucking Windows? Dell has developer edition laptops yes but they are not as available as Windows ones. Why don't other companies don't start such a trend? Oh let me say it, money! But as developers leave Macbooks for better choices, I think it's time for manufacturers to start investing in Linux as a replacement.

At least give me the option to opt out of Windows and save the price of the license but yeah choose your hardware so it's Linux compatible or better contribute and make your hardware Linux compatible. (Talking to you Nvidia and Qualcomm (for those who don't know the atheros series of wifi adapter compatibility is dodgy at best))

I've read about this before and it's a very long story. It's similar to why those companies almost always use Intel. Microsoft offers better prices on licenses if x% of PCs ship with Windows, usually 90%+ so there is very little room for Linux as they would otherwise lose a lot of money or increase prices.

Intel do the same with processors shipped, it's very difficult, even now with good processors, for AMD to really make a dent in the market shares, hence why they focus more on custom built PCs then OEM PCs.

Lenovo used to have a few Ubuntu Thinkpads. Since they used the same hardware or almost the same on later (windows only) models, the driver support was actually pretty good. (Except for that annoying firmware bug they had for a year or so...)

If you honestly want Linux that badly, you'd just install it yourself on a nice laptop that comes preinstalled with Windows 🤷

In Holland there's a great shop (physical + web) that offers custom computers. They give you the option to have windows preinstalled or not. Several other options as well, e.g. how much ram, what kind of hard disk, etc. all in drop-down lists. I haven't seen another shop with that kind of service anywhere else.

I purchased two laptops yet and both came with windows, thankfully both supported Linux very well but none supported Nvidia on Linux °_°. Dell's Dev editon is also not available in India so to sum up I won't be getting better choices

@py2js maybe Dell and Nvidia work best in a Windows environment? Don't know this from my own experience though.

I think, the problem is actually the Linux scene itself. Lets ask it this way, which distro should they provide to keep everyone happy? Who would provide the support fo these ?

Linux in general just is not bulky enough off the shelf thingy like Windows.
