I'm currently helping a junior developer in my team to get on board. He is new to Linux and whenever I ask him to work on vi editor, I get to see that look on his face!

Why would you ever need to work with vi... Or vim or whatever for that matter. I won't ask a junior to work in an editor he doesn't know how to use and is vastly different from any other editor...

@mzeffect I'll tell you what happened. He told me that he is new to Linux (Ubuntu is what we use) and he wanted to edit some of his text files (he wanted to store some of the important URLs in a file). So he asked me which editor to use. I was busy in something and I told him vi or vim 😂

@irene you know what I asked him to do today? I asked him to write, compile and run a simple Java program in vim. I told him that doing this would let him appreciate the power of vi 😂 I know I pushed him a bit today!
