Take a look at ThinkPad. It has a great build, easy expandable ports and obviously cheaper.

otavio5377y@appauldev that’s what my boss suggested me, however I don’t wanna deal with the trouble of setting it up, fixing bugs etc. I was thinking on going Ubuntu if Mac OS was out of the picture

My 2012 MacBook Pro is still just fine... I just had to upgrade the RAM to 8gb and swap the HDD for a SSD... Try it... It might not be enough for you (I don't use it for professional purposes) but it's rather cheap to upgrade...
And might keep you until something interesting comes up in the market (Intel i9 for laptops... Hmmmm) -
@mmcorreia
The 2012 MacBook Air is unable to upgrade RAM. Source: bought a MacBook Air with basic specs so I could upgrade, found out I cannot. -
@j-dev-o
What about the Asus Vivobook? It's averages around $550 USD and you could put in a 240 GB NVMe SSD for another $80. -
otavio5377y@RiderExMachina I haven’t seen that one yet. I was looking into the asus Zenbook ux430. For about 1000 dollars I get a nice configuration and a good looking laptop

RageBone5907yDell XPS have a pretty good track record.
Though you should always get the Extended warranty!
I heard buying through credit-card most often gives you 2 instead of 1 year of warranty.
I also like the xioami laptops, i have a broken 13.3 and they seem to only have one problem instead of 20 similar ones like the razer blades ...
Fingers crossed that my RB survives 😂 -
I'm also in the same boat as you are @j-dev-o . My choices are save up for the 15" MBP OR a Dell XPS 15, but have not canvassed a lot of windows laptop (I'll install Ubuntu if ever)

@j-dev-o I have a 7559 which I got in late 2015. I love it! Only problem I feel you'll have coming from macbook air would be the weight and battery life. (neither of them matter much to me)
Performance wise it's a beast and value for money. No major problems so far.
My laptop's specs:
i7 6700 hq
8 gb ram
1tb + 8gb SSHD
GTX 960m 4gb
I really need to but a new laptop, my current 2012 MacBook Air with 4gb of ram can’t take the workload anymore. But it’s so hard to find a good alternative ! The new MacBook Pro sucks and it’s so fucking expensive (and I don’t want the silly touch bar). The competition isn’t much better, most laptops with the same quality doesn’t allow you to upgrade the ram and are about the same price range than the MacBook. Really , I miss the days we had good, affordable, upgradable choices (RIP MacBook Pro 2012).
