Managers decided that the support contract with one of our most important third party servers is not worth the money.

Take a guess which server caused an outage for all customers twice already :D

    Heh, I remember exactly a rant like this a few months ago.

    Weirdest stuff we had was working system but database started to write corrupt data. A fan issue. Thank God we had people there to do checks for us. Very miracle that system was working. How is it possible to execute a valid sql statement if data is corrupted trough heat. But anyway, they said this was the cause and it was repaired and fixed.

    Is the software directly responsible for income of company? In this case weird decision.

    @retoor yes, our company sells only 1 service via different products. That server is responsible for the service that users wants to use our system.

    Our API, database, ... is still working but users do not care about this if the key functionality is now breaking.

    Compare it to a messaging app. you can see all chat history & all contacts but cannot send or receive messages. Users would be very unhappy.
