@dthree this is complete bullshit. It is NOT the same effort to correct beginners on SO, as it is to be jerks. Being jerks keeps the site running.

If you let one noob in through, a throng of others rush in behind and soon the site is swamped by noob questions.

That's what the downvotes are for. To make sure the site only has good questions for it's readers and answerers. No one wants to read noob shit on SO and no expert wants to answer that shit for free. And remember, they are doing it for free. I'm sure a lot of experts would just move away from SO if noob questions were allowed.
