    What the fuck does anything in this thread mean?

    Inconveniencing yourself for the illusion of greater control? You must be an Arch user.

    I use it for !i, !yt, and !m all the time. But I also use it for lots of other stuff. I seldom do !g though. DDG's default results are almost always more than adequate.

    What's !g?? Pardon my ignorance.

    @b1urryfac3 A bang. See @bahua's comment

    How about using Chromium's built-in search system? You type "YouTube.com" click tab and search.

    @7400 Lmfao I spilled coffee out

    @sSam

    I can't speak for others, but that's a much more laborious process than "!yt <search term>" for me. In Linux and Mac, I even have it set to be my default fallback in my keyboard launcher. So for 99% of my searches, I hit alt-space and then just type the search string. Then my preferred browser opens a tab with the search I entered.

    @bahua well I hit: y -> tab -> "search string" because YouTube is my most visited website that starts from y. I get nice auto complete from a list of my visited websites.

    @sSam

    I mean, after making sure you're already in chrome and it has focus.

    @bahua yes? And I have chrome in focus when I want to search for something? If not I can just super+1 and I have chrome focused.
  • 0
    That works for your workflow, and I'm glad it does. but I am seldom focused on my browser, so switching to it requires a superfluous step, for me.

    I’m annoyed at myself for even engaging in this thread now.

    @bahua What launcher are you using on Linux? How does it determine when to use the fallback?
  • 0
    @7400

    I use Mutate. I recompiled it to use ddg as a fallback, rather than Google. There are a number of user-configurable shortcuts you can use with it, and if you don't trigger any of them, it uses the search fallback.

    @bahua Thanks! I'll have a look at it. DDG from the launcher souns really useful for me but I also like to be able to use shell commands in my launcher

    @7400

    Sure. I use shell commands too. You just have to write the scripts for it.

    If you use Chrome to ddg, there isn't really a point 😬
