aritzh7527yBecause if you use UTF-8 everywhere (http://utf8everywhere.org) you don't need to specify that it is UTF-8. On top of that, "Byte Order Mark" makes no sense in a byte-sized encoding, you could call it an "Encoding Mark" or something like that.

I experienced a lot of weird bugs and crashes when (accidentally) using (PHP) files with BOM.
The BOM is obsolete anyway.
