So, right now I'm having to study the code of an old pretty complex Delphi calculation tool so I can migrate it to Matlab. There is no actual documentation.
The person who knows the tool best and only one left to have even seen the code is not supposed to know what I'm doing.
I'm supposed to talk him into giving me a quick (1h) walkthrough of the code without actually telling him why, or figure it out all by myself.
He feels too strongly about Delphi.
I kinda don't feel this ...

Isn't the danger of technical debt as big with matlab as it is with delphi? Why change it?

@heyheni I'm a poor consultant (software engineering) who was thinking he'd get to do python (calculation and all).

They pay my company well, very well. They also pay the Delphi license $6000 a user.

They're running their Matlab logic on cloud (think digital twin). There's probably better but; as I understand it, the choice was made because they're all engineers who know Matlab but nothing about Python.
