Tutanota (encrypted mail service) is releasing a new android app soon which won’t be using GCM anymore so that the app won’t be the reason a phone connects to anything google anymore and it’ll be on F-Droid soon!

Fuck yeah, Turanota, I fucking love you ❤️

    I've been using their service to run emails via my own domain and I'm actually quite pleased with their services.
    I've never before payed for email but I'm glad I'm paying a company with these goals.

    @fuck2code

    Wait three years more, and email them only when a significant other discovers this and thinks you’re weird for not closing the account.

    *But* don’t respond to the reply for confirmation and make up a lame excuse for your S.O. when they ask you about it 3 months later.

    “Oh yeah, I had a busy week at work and forgot about it”

    @fuck2code They won’t. Because they can’t verify anything ;)

    @RantSomeWhere Well how would one be supposed to use it in a third party email app with custom (and vetted) crypto?

    @linuxxx Like ProtonMail's bridge. It's essentially a go between mail server on your machine. Your client connects to bridge, and bridge connects to ProtonMail. I really like it.

    @datawraith Didn’t know that existed! But in their defense,they’ve got a very small team so I guess they’ve got to set priorities 😩

    I just downloaded it. Looks awesome! Same UI as the new website pretty much, dark theme, works with 2FA, etc.

    In short, highly recommend!
