To me its the same. I would expect for it to change at work but not even the lead developer is too interested in it.
He is veeeery old school. Procedural type, hates the idea of oop. He is willing to discuss functional programming since funny enough he has been doing it without really knowing that he does.
The other dude is pretty bad, acts like he has "heard of but never used" a lot of things but in reality he has no clue what I talk about most of the time.
Then I have a really good friend that graduated with my same degree (comp science) but inherited a large business in town that takes away all of his time from software so the dude is out of the loop.
:( it hurts. I am introverted as well. But can be extremely social when I need to. I adapt. I think I am crazy for it. -
BigBoo23216yGet new friends. Push through the pain of being introverted af. You can't just do what's comfortable all the time. You got to move outside of your comfort zone.

I usually talk about programming with my girlfriend who studies pharmacy and doesn't even know what "if else" is. She's going to hit me in the back of my head with a chair someday, I see that in her eyes...

hasu23706yI have that one great friend who has nothing to do with programming but listens to my ranting anyway - where I try to explain everything to her in not computer science terms so that she can relate - and she does the same, ranting about her biology studies....
I guess friends don't always have to be from the same field. It helps if they are, but if not, give them a chance. If they are really your friends, they'll listen anyway.

CozyPlanes6ALWAYS make a backup, or at least save your files every 5 minutes (or turn auto-save on). You never know whet...
AAAAAAAA I want to talk with my friends about programming and software, but there is only one friend who understands even a BIT (Rest he doesn't just care about probably). It's driving me crazy that i can't talk with any of my friends about programming, because they don't know shit about it. I really can't make new friends either because i somehow have forgotten how to talk to humans (i'm extremely introverted lol). It's paiful when you have to explain a programming meme.
