I can buy a beer myself but will never gonna turn off the adblocker for anyone.

It's a safety thing as well. There are dangerous ads out there, and lots of these sites don't even know what they're serving

I hate ads. Not because they display content that might interest me(happened twice, once I even clicked and it was only bait), but because they've been displaying content that had absolutely nothing to do with my interests even with Google tracking when or how you go to wc.

So no, that kind of ads and websites that use pagination for 200 word article just to display more ads like that can kindly piss of while I use adblockers and Xposed. ^^

This is something that actually could make me turn it off... 🍻

    Thank god for adblockers...

How cool would it be to pay for each site we visit, each app we want to Download, monthly subscriptions for YouTube and every other site? Cool, right?

    or

you could accept a few ads in the sites you like and take the money from companies, instead of your wallet.

@henseiderv OR... they could leave my wallet and freedom alone. It's not my obligation to turn anything off just because one wants money. I want too, will you click on random ads, so that i could have a beer?

A website can feature a "donate" button, e.g. paypal gives out the complete html only to paste somewhere

Re: paying for visiting. Paying ISP is expensive enough and internet is free sea, so if a website has a feature that will require payment for basically nothing, it can kindly fuck off.

This crap makes me lose interest in the page content almost immediately.

@KeyWeeUsr Unless you expect to live in a comunist or anarchist world (not criticizing either), you shouldn't expect to get any sort of entertainment for free.

You're now doing them a favor. They make Good content and expect something in return. People make content for free to make money through ads. At least I wouldn't spend my time editing, writing, to give it away. You can have many types of returns other then financial, but mostly it's money that people want in those cases.

@henseiderv If they manage to find a proper place for an ad that doesn't cripple their layout, I may consider allowing to display the ad, depends on the content. If it's a website I return to daily e.g. SO or github, then I don't have a reason to block it and the ads are related. Obviously they have an idea how to set&place an ad properly.

If the ad annoys the hell out of me e.g. totally unrelated video-ads on every other video with, then guess what. adblocker disabling's not gonna happen. nmp

@henseiderv I share @KeyWeeUsr. I understand some seeks to make extra income through ads, but truly sometimes the user experience the ads give is terrible. There are websites that have done ads well, and have praised them about the fact, but by and large most just annoy me, so I'm not about to disable AdBlocker for a website I am visiting for the first time, and don't know how good it is - that actually right there is a terrible experience.

@KeyWeeUsr @TsiTMC I understand your view and have no problem with that. I'm defending that you see ads in sites you enjoy. And if you Care enough, you'd send some feedback complaining in case the ads are too much. Some sites do have too many ads, but my point is that some are worth as they entertain us.

@henseiderv There are two and a half(men) results for sending feedback about website design + ads.

    1) big company - ignores, want profit
    2) idiot dev - ignores, wants profit + big chance of laziness to e.g. place element few pixels to the side
2.5) magical unicorn dev who reads the feedback

And I've experienced the 2.5 result so few times I could count it on max two hands. One of these unicorns made devRant, so you can imagine.

I find this approach bad, show me your content so I can see if it worth the effort to disable my ad blocker and then if I like it and you don't have more than 2 ads I will consider it.
  • 2
@superuser I find approach that rapes my screen and eats data limit in a few days even worse. And I really don't think that showing content (or a part of it) before buying was ever bad. Trial versions, music samples, free tracks from album, trailers, name it...

I won't disable if the webdesign is crippled by own ads and make it hard to use it(double that on mobiles), the same for "Come meet girls from <city from IP>", "Make it big" or similar, because it provides content.

And making revenue just from having tons of ads on web is pure idiocy.
  • 2
The problem isn't ads for me, it's how obnoxious and dangerous they can be. If the system gets remodeled to be more sane I'll probably allow them.

My tech writer friend is currently not making a salary and is payed from ads, so in actuality he's not getting any money because of adblockers. Was enough for me to turn mine off
