What’s up DevRanters.
Is what’s up still up today ?

Sooo, my question is, what’d you do for your privacy ?
I’m using Signal and Riot.im for chat, ProtonMail for email (tutanota in the future).
But I’m using iPhone, can we really trust Apple ? Is this better on Android with a specific ROM ?

Same for computers (btw I’m not an Arch user 😎).

    I think @linuxxx could write a novel about this.

    Well, as long as the source code of a system is closed source, no matter what they claim as for privacy/security,you can't verify shit anyways.

    @marci010101 well I hope he’s gonna respond to the Linuxxxsignal in the sky 🌌

    @marci010101 And make that 10+ books 😆

    @Maartz Also keep in mind that according to leaked documents in 2013, apple is integrated within one huge ass mass surveillance program 😬

    @linuxxx well that’s what I was wondering, a bit late, but that’s not a problem.
    The computer is on the market, changing for Linux (obviously).
    For the phone it’s an other short story too.

    @Maartz I'm a big signal user myself and have been a premium tutanota person for years now 😊

    @linuxxx I’ve read an article on r/Privacy about Signal, the writer emits caveats about using Signal.

    This is the article :

    What do you think of ?

    @Maartz I think that the creator has explained himself and people are just hating really. He has explained himself with quite valid arguments imo.

    @undef As for your second paragraph, can you show me the source code which would prove that?
  • 2
    @linuxxx well I’m using both Signal and Riot.im but honestly my heart goes to Signal ;)

    Trust m0xie over Google is a safe bet IMO.

    @undef That wasn't my question :)

    @Maartz Yup!
  • 2
    @undef because I don’t know keybase, until yet.
    That was the goal of my post, what do you guys use and also why ;)

    @linuxxx but I have heard in the past that apple refusing to give leaks of info about someone (criminal iirc) for FBI

    @devTea right about the St Bernardino shooter.
    Tim Cook published a letter on apple.com
    But is it true ?

    @undef My Android device is free of any Gapp, apart from YouTube. And that was easily done.

    @Maartz Yup, I'm using LineageOS :)

    But any AOSP ROM that hasn't been bloated with Google does the trick :)

    @undef I don't recall saying it was "secure", just free from Google
