"You should record video tutorials of how to do stuff", people say to me.

#1 - I suck on camera. I have a really annoying nasally voice that I just can't stand to hear in my own head, let alone on video.
#2 - I look like every stupid a--hole fat old ugly white guy people love to hate. Nobody wants to see that.
#3 - I suck at remembering what the f$$# I was going to say to begin the video, to show the thing I was going to show, and how to end it without sounding like a complete #@#%@# moron.
#4 - %@%$#@ QuickTime! And any other video screen recording software that NEVER $%#@#$% WORKS for me!! I'll be in the middle of a very complex process I'm demonstrating and BAM! The whole recording crashes. Six takes and six more crashes later and I'm @#%#@# done with trying to do this #@$@#%.

Screenshots and text it is and always will be.

Can you share your tutorials? I hate videos honestly because of lots of talking when all I care about is code, then I read what it's all aboutcuz I know what the end result is and now I need to fill in missing info in my head

Also skimming is faster than moving few secs in the video lol

@gitpush LOL Did I also mention I have an acute case of Impostor Syndrome? The tutorials I put together tend to be sent privately to only be for specific clients about specific things they need to know. I have a _real_ hard time putting out on the Web any hard and fast list of how to do anything because I'm afraid of someone coming at me with "You have no freaking idea what you're doing. You did that completely wrong. Everyone knows you do Foo and not Bar. Idiot!"

I blame every embarrassing Elementary school classroom exchange where I thought I knew the right answer and didn't and the whole class laughed at me.

@stackodev I was called stupid, hopeless and that I just go die, that happened for nearly three years starting 2008 till 2011, but now I had all those: "you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about" sorted out and now I can confront whenever needed.

Don't hide in your comfort zone get the fuck out of it or one day you will regret it, be ready to hear criticism just ignore those who use stupid words to describe their idea

Brother you seem to have a very low opinion of yourself. Your voice can't be worse than Tim Buchalka(look him up, dude sounds like british Kermit) and in the tech world fuck what you look like. Confidence my brotha, CONFIDENCE! If you got the skills to pay the bills then I will always appreciate a good tutorial by you.

Well, well, people can say whatever they want. If Foo works Foo can be used and there is no shame in that:

"if it sucks, but it works, then it doesn' t suck"

I think that telling people what buttons did you pressed helps a lot.
    screenshot or list of commands.

My bigger problem for example is founding the button I am supposed to click (spoiler: "oh, it was right here in the top!")

At least you have an idea.
Whereas I am here thinking of what my videos should be based on.
There are a lot of categories...

As long as you tried alternatives and found what soits you the most, and ocasionaly try to improve on that, you're doing it as it should be done.

I hate the fact I like software dev and look exactly like the fucking cliche "mother's basement" type. You're not alone on that one.

But, you know, my mum's basement isn't that bad.

@odite I somehow got a beautiful blonde blue-eyed cheerleader (from a math and science academy no less) to forget about her on-again-off-again-boyfriend who was now a millionaire software developer and marry goofy old me. There is hope for us poor bastards yet!
