So Igot that Samsung DeX thing a while ago. So far, it was just a nice gadget to have at hand, but I didn't get to use it properly since my laptop was always the better option sort of.
Now.
My power adapter for the laptop died last friday. I have a second one at home, but of course, I pack the wrong one for work.
Ended up working the entire day on the DeX. Thankfully, I just needed to do some web and office based stuff, and all the necessary documents are online anyway.
So that thing just saved my butt today, which is nice. Took a while to get used to, but it does it's job quite nicely.

To be honest: Iam suprised it works the way it does. Oh what a time to be alive...

Now the question is...
Can I get Ubuntu on here somehow? I did find a Tmux? shell and was able to download some ubuntu onto it, but it had gpg issues.
Anyone got more references? Ubuntu on Android 8.

    @Debugmed do I need root for that?or could there be a VM for phones?

    @hasu you will need root, you can also check termux, it is great but as it is working on arm it has limited capabilities.

    you will also need a different keyboard, hacker's keyboard with ctrl and alt

    I don't want to root this thing yet I've got warranty still ^^'

    I kinda doubt it. Ubuntu Touch got discontinued and unless you've got the full kernel source (including drivers) as well as some time on hand (and a lot of headscratching) I doubt that phones can run desktop Linux.. I mean it should be possible, just that nobody has done it yet so it won't be easy to port it. On Android you may want to try Termux, or Linux Deploy (requires root and loop device support). Or you can manually allocate some storage, bootstrap a Linux distribution (keeping in mind ARM/aarch64 architecture) and chroot in there which also requires root for mounting and chroot).

    @rsync yeah thats the thing. It ain't rooted and I probably won't root it for another 2 years.

    @Condor i played around with tmux. It's fun. It's rediculous, but fun.

    What about docker on Android?

    @Condor Ubuntu touch is discontinued, but ubports are still working on it

    @Debugmed oh, that's interesting to hear! Perhaps their porting process could shed some light on how to do it for other distributions as well then.

    @lamka02sk ohhhhh that would be so cool. I'm.. kinda surprised they would do that but on the other hand I'm proud of them doing so. Good guy samsung.
