A classmate saw me using Firefox today and laughed at me saying Chrome is more secure. I'm not very knowledgeable about the security; I use Firefox because it uses less memory and it's more stable on my machine.

I doubt that info of his is current so can someone who actually knows about the security give me some counter-arguments for him? The more facts the better :D

    @devTea you can, they just add them selves back instantly 😔

    I cleared my cookies and my G home kicked in 😯 - let me try that again... ok maybe not related just spooky as hell.

    Chrome came out on top in a recent vulnerability contest as the most secure browser.
    I can’t find the source anymore - I’ll keep looking 🤔

    However it is not good for privacy without several extensions.

    @C0D4 Firefox not being the winner of a security test isn't the same as it having lots of massive security holes that everyone exploits like this kid was saying

    @svgPhoenix true, no browser is completely secure, chrome is just less subjective to attacks.

    At the end of the day, the browser is just another application and shouldn’t be treated as something that will save your system from infested or malicious websites.

    I'd say Lynx probably has a lot less risks of infection.

    Or internet explorer from something like Windows 95. Probably won't be able to run all those viruses.

    @creadom in fact, windows 95 is not capable of running .net, so it can't execute some threats for anything above XP...
    Then again, it's Windows 95, it came from a time when noone but the military and banks really gave a fuck about security. No privesc necessary because you're always admin, logging in by clicking cancel on the password prompt...

    That's what makes it so secure. Probably will take too long to load viruses/ads from the pages you're reading that you will already have moved somewhere else.

    Any proprietary browser owned by a company like Google does not qualify as 'secure' to me. But I guess it's a question of how you define 'secure'...

    @theKarlisK not talking about all the user data that finds its way to Google's servers somehow.

    I mean, what's the motivation of a company to take the effort and develop just another web browser? There must be some value for the company of course. The new piece of software has to solve a problem other existing browsers don't. Gaining access to data mostly...

    Firefox uses the same amount of memory as google chrome. Chrome is also more stable ;)

    But firefox respects your privacy though
