    Ya the internet has become a mess since they made it widely public. Maybe one day someone will invent a nicenet like darknet but for people who enjoy internet without all the hoopla.

    Internet is slowly turning into TV. Fewer publishers, more commercials, more barriers of entry, more centralization every day.

    Remember also IRC. What a pity that DR doesn't have an IRC channel.

    Back in the day, I compiled ircII from source tarball on HP-UX to have IRC in the Unix pool.

    There was something magic when you saw it back then, now it looks like someone pull something weird from shithole.

    Looks like we live in someone’s bad dream, it would collapse.

    @irene Well, isn't this place a kind of sub domain for communication on the internet?

    Or maybe we just need to build a new internet 3.0 with Terminal only commands to detract normies?

    @irene mh discord.. no thanks. Just real IRC would be fine. No voice shit, graphics, emojis and whatnot. :-)

    Kids these days just don’t know what they missed. 😉

    More likely it’s corporate and government nature who tries to grab something new to the table to disrupt people to go mad about the reality.
    So we were given the great apple that turned out to be poisoned inside.

    I miss the old internet where you had to put every single address of the PCs you wanted to communicate with in your hosts file 😪

    I’m so jealous. I missed this by a decade. It must have felt like limitless possibilities lay before us.

    Heard about solid project from tim berners lee to restore the internet back to users control?
    Sounds promising! After all he is the creator of today's mess.

    Amen to that. I do kind of miss waiting for the mail to come as a child some days, just for those AOL free trial hours. That was before we got cable.

    @RemyRm on the old internet we had good stuff. It was just distributed differently. What good stuff has come about that is really new? Targeted advertising?

    @notify yeah but it’s in early stage

    @vane
    Yep, but it's promising. Even its getting lots of momentum and in their github contributors are increasing

    I feel your pain man.. I used to initialize modems manually to connect to bulletin boards. Those were the days. Trade Wars was the SHIT!

    @irene
    I read in some articles, they have future plan to let user host their pods and will be decentalized later on once people start adopting it

    @irene It's open source (but I understand the code can differ in actual environment) so we can audit it, what you say?
    Worth reading: https://inrupt.com/blog/...

    @irene
    Yep I agree. To flourish, new tech should coincide the current infrastructure so he made compatible with all w3 standard with user level data protection unlike current scenario of all big company controls. We do have other great projects like beaker browser from dat, zeronet etc but it creates a different paradigm so in my view sudden change will be difficult but slow drifting can help

    I think the biggest problem is always not when but how soon you discovered and adopted like when you adopted crypto currency 10 years ago you don’t care now

    What's wrong with politics?
  • 0
    @varikvalefor let’s start with manipulation, lack of transparency, deformation of moral standards in the name of higher cause like country, God or family wealth just to gain power and authority among people.

    I use BBS boards. I'm 18. I'm old and yet not.

    Quantum age?
