My team: gets fired
8 other colleagues: here’s our notice, we leavin
Love it, they’re left with 4 devs so good luck finding people who know how to work in your 20 year old legacy that every app in ur company is built on lul10 -
Well .. just worked 15 hours straight because an architect who acts like a manager and has friends at my employer (im a consultant), had my employer threaten us ........ “Watch out with what you say to X” and telling us to work overtime..5

2 weeks into the job and already had a fiesta
Apparently production went down.
I work for a huge airline company so that’s a big deal..
However, production was down for the better part of a fuckin day.
The reason? Not a single developer noticed 🤷♂️9 -
I left some spaghetti code on production at the company i left, i really hope my replacement isn’t a psycho who’ll try to find me3
-
Today, for the first time in my life I quit my job
I feel very happy (refer to any of my older rants), yet i also feel very sad because in spite of all the quirks, it’s a great place to work with super nice people whom I feel like have become a big part of my life in such a small period of time
I very much doubt I’ll ever find a company like this again with such a relaxing atmosphere but I have to think about myself and my career ..
I’m especially incredibly sad about leaving one of my colleagues as he has become one of my best friends these past few months..
Let’s just hope I made the right decision ..8 -
I wrote my resignation letter yesterday, all’s good.
Today, bossman walks in:
“I’ve got some great news, all our developers are getting a raise”
Me: *well shit*15 -
Got a job offer that’s ~€1000 more than i make now. But idk i care very much about the company i work at right now so I think I have to do the right thing for my colleagues ..
I’m starting in january, see you cunts and your pile of shit codebase around, i’m out 👋3 -
It took me 5!!!! fucking hours to do it but I did.
I got linux to work with my RTX 2070 oh my god
Most of that time was spent figuring out what exactly was wrong because the problem is hella common but the cause doesn’t seem to be so i was sent off in the completely wrong direction a bunch of times
Apparently Nouveau doesn’t support my GPU yet and installing the binary driver from nvidia seemed impossible but i pulled it off thanks to some random stranger on askubuntu.com
Unfortunately i got it working on elementary os instead of ubuntu so now i have to go install ubuntu 🤷♂️13 -
Currently rewriting a typescript app to ES5
You read that right, from typescript 2.9 to ES5, not ES6 or 7, just ES5
I guess the boss doesn’t like modern stuff
On the bright side, i contacted some recruiters today and there are already 2 companies who want me over for an interview11 -
I fucking hate my boss so much
He looks down on me like I’m some idiot who doesn’t know his shit.
The other day he was trying to explain OAuth2.0 to me in the most dumbed down way ever, even after telling him I do already know how OAuth 2.0 works. He just said “oh well just making sure” and continued explaining it to me the exact same way. Felt shitty having something explained to you which you already know in such a way in front of all of your coworkers
Whenever I give my thoughts on something he answers with an argument that’s essentially true but pretty stupid:
B: “We don’t need to bundle our JS files” (see my other rant)
M: “Our load time is around 15 seconds though and it takes forever to update our script tags”
B: “Yes but it’s only 15 seconds once and the tags are already there so it’s fine”
How do you reply to something like that??
On top of that, his code is absolutely awful, always looks hacked together, lacks documentation and i don’t think he has written a unit test in his life
I don’t even like frontend, was told I would mostly do backend and it seems like all I’m doing recently is write fucking javascript because even if I wanted to write backend code, it’s nearly impossible to write clean code in this pile of horseshit codebase7 -
*Me explaining how to use npm to my colleague (senior dev)*
M: So from the command line you just need to move to the directory with the package.json first
C: Uhm right
C: *types ‘move dir’*
M: Aight just give me the keyboard
How does a senior developer not know how to use cd in a command line?5 -
Honestly, I’ve been complaining a lot about the company I joined a few months ago and especially about the code base and I just have to say ...
With good fucking reason, look at this shit, every single *.js file of our Angular app is manually added inside the master page
Not even minimized what the actual fuckkkkkkkkkkk15 -
My colleague sends me an email saying “here’s a check not being performed which causes a bug can you fix this and push to production”
With a screenshot of the code and place it needs to happen underlined
ARE YOU kIDDING ME OH MY GOD
He doesn’t have time to write 10 characters but he has the time to make this work of art of an email and send it to me4 -
I love C# but oh my god can .NET Core please take over already so I don’t have to use windows 24/7 anymore 😩7
-
Had a job interview yesterday and I was so nervous, couldn’t think straight at all so I figured there’s no chance of me getting the job.
And just now i got an email saying they want another interview..... what? how? huh..?4 -
Sometimes I really fucking hate this company
The code is an absolute shitshow filled with static classes, untestable and duplicate code, on top of that my boss doesn’t like open source
Yeah so i’m not allowed to use a mapping library or something because “Uhhh like uhh we don’t have a contract with the company so who knows what’ll happen when the maintainers leave the project”
I understand his reasoning but it’s an absolutely retarded reasoning especially considering most of the .NET platform is open source nowadays
Writing a webapp from scratch now as well and I HAVE to use vanilla javascript and AngularJS 1.5 even though all the developers here told me they would like to upgrade to Typescript and Angular 2+ but it’s never gonna happen I suppose
Oh and he doesn’t like TDD and our only product is SAAS so imagine the amount of bugs being pushed simply because we don’t have time to write tests or even manually test, let alone refactor our horseshit codebase
AND i have to pay for gas myself which takes 200€ out of my bank account a month just for driving to work whilst I’m only getting a mediocre pay
Have a job interview tomorrow and another one on tuesday4 -
Figured I’d just apply for a job in Munich (i’m belgian), didn’t think anything would come of it and now they want a skype interview with me and i have absolutely no clue of what to expect from skype interviews5
-
Honestly I gave Apple a chance and bought an iPhone but oh my fucking god i’m going to throw this overpriced piece of horseshit they call a phone so hard at steve job’s grave that CNN is gonna report it as a meteor strike7
-
Apparently people hate meetings and I never really got why but we had a 5 hour long meeting on monday so .. i get it ..2
-
Production is down, a coworker got himself locked in his own apartment so he can’t leave and another is late, the phone won’t stop ringing
And I don’t have the credentials to access the production server
Just a monday morning, everything’s fine 🔥😊🔥7 -
I don’t know what the fuck is going on here in Limburg (province in Belgium) but companies seriously need to stop using Comic Sans
I see it on banners, trucks, flyers and just about everything .. it seriously triggers me 😩8 -
*trying to install arch linux for the first time*
> reboot
> system goes into a boot loop
> cant get into BIOS
> taking pc apart rn8 -
How to get investors wet:
“My latest project utilizes the microservices architecture and is a mobile first, artificially intelligent blockchain making use of quantum computing, serverless architecture and uses coding and algorithms with big data. also devOps, continuous integration, IoT, Cybersecurity and Virtual Reality”
Doesn’t even need to make sense11
