Checked out my college’s robotics team today. I was the only girl in the room, and I feel like I won’t make any close friends like I did in high school. I want my awesome high school robotics team back... 😢

@Pythoneer The guys were mostly older than me, knew each other and... I’m not sure how to describe it, but I didn’t get a warm “vibe” from them

Don't worry about it too much, perhaps they are just unsure how to approach you, just give it some time, sure you will find a friend. Good luck though, I know it's tough when you're the only girl with a space full of men.

@Minnow I work in a robotics lab myself and quite a few people I work with feel comfortable with the group they've worked with for a long time and when new people join they aren't the most inviting at first but in time they realise they didn't mean to cause any discomfort and were just as nervous to say hello to you as you were to them. I really hope you aren't discouraged by your first meeting please keep trying to indulge your interests, I hope your next meetings go better. Let me know how you get on :)

@BoyBiscuit Thank you! I’m definitely going back for sure. At the very least I hope to get experience with C#. Gotta stay optimistic...

@Pythoneer Thank you! They actually let me know that it was okay if I had no experience. I think it was just that they’re already a group and I’m an outsider...

@Pythoneer I love Sololearn. I’ve worked with C++ a little in the past, and I’m attempting to learn Objective C. C# looks a little similar to Java, so hopefully it’s not too bad.

@Pythoneer Oh and yes, I was a programmer on my high school robotics team, plus I took APCS (Java).

C# is one of my favourite languages it feel so smooth, I wish my work demanded more use of it

Go back, build something great and you will inspire those that follow you.

@Minnow you can take initiative and try to approach them, break the ice :) If they're snobbish, well then I don't see why you would want to join them ;) Be yourself, do your best, you don't have to prove anything, you are there to learn and get better! You go girl ^_^
