    Being open helps, she will appreciate this. At least now she can either help you through it or prepare for the future.

    @forkbomber thing is, she knew i wasn't happy and she has been working toward sorting things out for me so she seemed really upset that i was thinking of leaving anyway. I'm generally honest but this was premature as i don't know what the best option is yet - i only told her because i was so tired and also because I've been pushing for a move to azure and if i leave then the other dev on my team doesn't really seem too interested in spending the time required for the migration...which is kind of a big reason for me looking elsewhere - a more passionate team, so now i feel that i have bitched on my other dev AND pissed off my manager thinking I'm ungrateful or something... aaaa...

    @tass yes and no - i don't like leaving a team in a shit position, they struggle to hire people as it is and yes its not my fault that they haven't got anyone else in but also i feel bad if i left them wholly understaffed

    @lemonthinking I understand.
    I've been thinking of leaving my job for months (years actually) but I don't want to leave the team because there is no replacement at this time, my colleagues are slow learners and it is very tiring to keep trying to educate them.

    But this is not something you can keep doing. If you are unhappy there, it will ruin the rest of your current life.
    I know it did for me, I'm not pleasant to be around. It was one of the biggest reasons my relationship ended.

    Don't get stuck in that situation, at least you are honest. Your manager might seem angry now, but she will understand.

    @mclovinit "view yourself as a business" - that's good advice, cheers

    I used to say too much. I use a more measured approach now but still sometimes slip. Don't worry. Lesson learned. Hey, maybe you will get a raise.
