Description

What is airdrop? Basically you have any apple device, tap share on anything, it lists all the devices near you, tap/click to a device to send stuff. I can’t belive there is no this simple crossplatform way to share stuff. All the airdrop alternatives either paid or fuckware. The project: You have a panel that displays all the devices/users on your lan. Drag and drop anything to a user. The user gets a notification where they can accept it or decline it. The plan is to make one cross platform program (maybe integrated to the file explorer?) that runs on windows mac and linux. And make a separate app for iphone and android. Later there project could implement bluetooth and nearby wifi for sharing. Any toughts or name suggestions? :D

How you will deal with discovering other devices within lan? Especially if its lets say heavily managed office network

When you open the share panel the program sends an “are you there” packet to 255.255.255.255 on port ex.54545 the program listens on other devices and when it recives an “are you there” it sends a”yepp bro push it!” With an unique device id. The program puts the devices who sent the iamthere packet in a list and displays it on the gui.

Have you considered using Bluetooth for it? Also, consider developing it in a more language agnostic direction, i.e. specs. You could kickstart a community standard for this with such project.
