Holy shit I missed you. I saw you posted the last rant but I didn't realize it was like *you*
How are you doing becoming a dev? Did you get out of retail? Are you still learning at least? -
@MissDirection Any plans in the next couple of years to get a dev position? How far along are you in learning, and what sort of dev do you want to be?
-
Same here. Have been at it for more than two decades, but sometimes still feel so stupidly incompetent.
There's so much truth in the "fake it till you make it" saying though. -
@bittersweet FWIW, every good dev I know feels stupidly incompetent once in a while.
The bad devs are often the overconfident ones that think they know everything straight out of uni, so never take anyone else's advice. -
@AlmondSauce @bittersweet
C'mon guys! It's time drop that impostor syndrome. I see this shit everywhere in IT and dev.
It's time to understand that we deal with a large variety of systems of extreme complexity. Devs are not made to understand 100% of everything. Devs are made to use and make these systems work together. We only need to know what we need to know to make it work and a little more but that's it. And that's already a LOT better than the 90% of ppl who can't even query google properly.
Good devs are about good working methods and getting low-level technical stuff to get along with high-level vision. So drop the whole "idk by heart all the basic string and int functionnalities of [insert language here]" and be proud of your work!
and that also applies for the not-quite-a-dev-yet-in-retail!
dammit!
