I started a new job a few weeks ago as a frontend developer. I have to create a new app to replace an old outdated process (no problem). The person who is doing the back-end development seems to be swamped in work & meetings. The new front-end is already blocked by the lack of progress of the back-end API development.

I'm a bit concerned about my tasks lol

Do it yourself, within six month's you say to your boss that you've educated yourself to full stack, extra money! And a more fun job, because front-end sucks :)

@tamagotchi don‘t do it unless you are 100% sure about the extra many. And I wouldn’t bet on that.

Unsure about the money, the company is a lot more financially healthy than my previous employee.

The bosses' boss does not believe in fullstack development

I'd code it up and maybe several visual versions (but cuz I do that when I present stuff cuz management where I was at was indecisive and changing their mind a lot, so I'd prepare and give them demos to help them decide and it worked well)

and then do a mock backend with static or random data. then easily switch that out for the real backend later

reminds me of a school group project I had tho and that did not go well at all cuz my whole group and only my group were slacking like I got setup to fail. and the joke "the teacher was just preparing you for the real world" does not make that guy a good teacher. makes him a fucktit
