Haha... Personal website? The requested project was not found...

@ScriptCoded yeah personal but I took it down.

Was just empty and filled with my js tests lol

@lxmcf Haha, going to anything with it?
  • 1
@ScriptCoded yeah going to start building it once I get some money to actually afford the web hosting

@lxmcf you can get a VPS as cheap as 3 bucks a month from scaleway or if you want just clientside: netlify / netlify drop.

@M1sf3t I wouldn't recommend any google/amazon cloud thing to my worst enemy, it's still better to have a cheap vps that has unlimited bandwidth, instead of risking running into some random bills.

@M1sf3t I was using gcp but I'm swapping hosts completely.

@JoshBent and I know but I'm using namecheap and I'm just going to buy it annually, save some money where I can

@lxmcf I feel I am out of the buzzword loop, is gcp just their domains service? thought it's Google's cloud shit - anyway namecheap for domains is great, but I meant the hosting that goes behind the domain. (which is free with netlify and much cheaper with scaleway vps instead of namecheap web host)

@JoshBent GCP = Google Cloud Platform

And yeah I know, I'm going to use namecheap for the background hosting as well, prefer having everything in one place, plus they are very cheap for the requirements I have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@lxmcf Welp, whatever floats your boat, I wouldn't recommend using anybody's web hosting package as those are always overpriced, slow, hot garbage.

@M1sf3t @JoshBent all comes to personal preference I guess

@M1sf3t I am not that extreme about my privacy yet, I mean more that with auto scaled resources and paid bandwidth, you can fuck yourself very easily, where as on a VPS you have unlimited bandwidth and no transfer in/out cost.

@lxmcf definitely not personal preference when you compare the financial safety you have with fixed resources and sane pricing model versus what was and should be targeted towards big companies that can't scale well with fixed resources or can't run the risk of over investing, the low end simply has no use for that and can easily get you killed in the process.

@M1sf3t "serverless" etc. is still a meme to me and aws/gc(p) I would still say is too expensive for people that have to ask for the price. btw DO does not have a free plan, except if you mean the GitHub student pack thing

@M1sf3t problem is that it's a credit card only entry for the "free credit" plan and they have no pure intentions, so if your application got hammered with requests, your credit card is going to drift at high speed through google's/amazon's payment processor.

@M1sf3t well if somebody refers you I think you get some credit on DO? but don't know of anything outside of that and GitHub student pack that would get that, maybe my memory is just giving up on me too.

@M1sf3t please ping me if you find it :)

@M1sf3t now I vaguely remember there was some sort of coupons in the early past of DO that I used on mass, but they stopped that at some point, what you did see is probably dirty tricks where people put their affiliate link as the target for the ad
