🤔 Have you tried it? I thought it is called browser plug in because it runs inside the browser independent from the os...
-
taigrr8786yBrowser plugin didn't work for me last time I tried. Last time was about 3 months ago, so it would have to be a new development if it does work. I run arch btw
I have had success with Hangouts, as zoom doesn't work for me either (I prefer i3 with no compositor). -
mt3o19136ySkype webapp plugin requires you to use windows 😂
S4b on osx doesn't allow you to allow someone to remote control your computer.
For sake of your sanity, don't ever run two instances of s4b on different devices and chat :) parts of the messages are on one client, parts are in another 😂 -
@mundo03 skype for linux ( normal skype ) != Skype for business.
Skype for business uses different protocols, so you cant attend a meeting hosted on Skype for business with a normal skype client.
There are some hackish ways to join from linux, but nothing out of the box.
In summary, skype for linux does not work on Linux. Tested every possible way. -
mundo0349116y@illegaldisease well, start a revolution ask all linux people to start refusing meetings with skype.
Spam skype with complains, and numbers on how much less you use skipe now.
Fuck'em hard -
taigrr8786y@cephei Yeah I know. Can't say I'm surprised. Google is always canceling things. But it works for now, and the drop date hasn't been finalized yet.
I'm still holding out hope, as they've yet to come out with a replacement videochat service that works from Desktop (Duo is mobile only) -
skype is by evidence proprietary mass surveillance software. beside the fact nearly no efforts are made to support open systems, who would want that anyway? there are always better alternatives. Ring or Jitsi for example.

mt3o19136y@4h4b large companies that pay for bulk licenses of windows, office and support. It's easier for them to have support from just one vendor. Besides, since other companies use s4b, it makes easier to operate with them.

taigrr8786yIf you can teach yourself how some advanced Docker stuff works, one guy did release a Docker image that I got to work on my Linux system. Audio and video but no screenshare or anything.
I don't remember where I found it but I'm sure if you do a quick search it won't be hard to find.
Related Rants
Why doesn't Skype of business have an application for Linux? Every company meeting where a developer isn't involved is run on sfb. Being on Ubuntu it is hard to attend any such meeting. Any meeting between developers is on zoom so we're good.
We can't really convince every one (other than developers) to start using zoom.
Do we have any other alternatives? Is this a lost cause?
