Making a dev enemy? Quite simple. Asked too many questions for the dev. I wanted to learn and understand his reasons, he thought I was undermining his position. Other time, I forced him to make the source code be consistent with the structure of applications existing code. Dude came, made some commits adding features in places suitable for him, despite the code having clean layer separation, which took me long time to achieve.
People should take their fireworks and shove them up their asses. I finally understand how cats and dogs feel on new years. Except I'm not a dog but, a frightened parent, scared of my kids being woken up by bangs and flashes!8
Oh, how much I hate those new years resolutions! People do then over and over, and they almost never comply with their list. Everone thinks they can forsee what will happen in the next year, except they force what will NOT happen. Dumb wishful thinking. If solving problems and achieving goals would be as simple as making a list on a magical day, you all would be unemployed, because all the problems would have been solved just by making the list. You need to stop dreaming and work hard.
Dear EU haters, it seems you have reasons to forgive European Beast some of its sins. EU wants to pay since coins for a bug bounty on FOSS. List includes KeePass, VLC, Putty, 7zip and Tomcat.
Coding during vacations? I'm having a fork in three days. Two processes are already alive. They are more resource hogs than Chrome, they are following each my step like Facebook and are more annoying than windows updates. Home needs defragmentation each few hours, strict antiviral policy is a must, there are random wake ups during the night.
Please, remind me, why do people want to have kids?2
Debian team removed a package "weboob" due to anti-harassment policies. Quick, bring the popcorn!
Teammember left. I did his three tickets yesterday. Before that I created and applied new rescue procedure for broken deploys on production and deployed the app manually. Took me about 6 hours to do this right, find the cause, and solve it, and document what I did. After that my teamleader bought me a launch :)
It wasn't his, my former teammate responsibility to bring back prd to life, it was me being good and engaged employee. His tickets, on the other hand, were his duties. Took me one hour to code them. He was working on them for two weeks. I can't wait for the performance review, im definitely going to ask for a nice rise :)1
Tried getting enough sleep for the Monday and failed miserably.
First, I made my kids washed, like usual, around 6pm. Then tried to put them to sleep. The younger one went to sleep, the older refused. Wanted to play, run, jump, sing and scream. After an half an hour his screaming woke up younger. Now I had two kids to put to sleep back again.
The younger is one year old and requires more attention, otherwise cries.
After serious fight the older was forced to sleep. He tried to jump over me, bite me, kick, hit, eat chocolate, wanted to pee, then jump, run and fight again. I ended up lying him forcibly in the bed, holding his hand by kind of a block, so that he couldn't move to much. Took 15 minutes, but he felt asleep. It was 22. Joys of having 3yo kid.
After more 30 minutes and a bottle of milk the 1yo was sleeping.
At 2am the older woke and cried. I woke, tried to make him calm, he pushed me away and went back to sleep. Now it's 3:40, my sleeping pill wore off, and I won't take another one, because I need to get up at six.
This is how you get a good night's sleep before having a busy week.15
So I literally added a "slow mode" switch to the application. A line in the config which is directly passed to the Thread.sleep()
Imagine that, when under heavy load, performance increased.1
I just have been with my kid to a doctor. Got some meds and was ordered to pray to the god, was almost dragged into discussion after saying that this comment was improperiate.
Somebody just criticized me about bringing politics into discussion.
I'm from POLand.4
I gonna puke if I see more whining on android studio from a guy having 8GB of ram and running IDE emulator and a browser. To remind everyone, decent android phones have 4GB of ram or more. They have memory cards with io speeds comparable to SSD. They have 10 core CPUs. And still, people want to develop on potatoes.10
My employer forced me to do video courses and pass quizzes/tests. Questions were vague, not directly related to the video and it took me over a week to get past them.
I think i should mention, there was a month for this, but I missed the email and learned about this courses by being warned that deadline is near.
On the second day I made a userscript that stores given answers and mark the correct ones in the next attempts, so that brute-forcing would require less copy/paste.
Topics covered by the courses are a nice subject for another rant.
Be exhausted in the middle of the day and almost fell asleep while being in the office. Be tired around 20, finally feel sleep after 2h and sleeping pills. Wake up at 3, struggle till 6 when you feel asleep again, at 8 alarm clock wakes you up telling you should be leaving for work :/
Reducing coffee intake was a horrible idea.7
Im amazed by people ranting on CoC, whining that is end of the meritocracy but at the same time have nothing against kicking out Hans Reisers legacy. After all ReiserFS is a fine piece of software. It's just that his aspie took over as he killed his wife. Where were those wankers when Reiser was going to prison? They could do great job on forking, renaming and supporting reiserfs. But no, it's easier to cry about sjw and stuff, than saving neat code.11
How I hate all those people who think VisualStudio Code is Open Source. It's not! Read the f*cking license!
In fact, you aren't even allowed to inspect its network traffic. Not to mention reverse engineering. That's nowhere near OpenSource.
You sure can download the source code, licensed as MIT, but building it won't give you the same piece of software.
Don't believe in everything someone tells you. Use your brain and check the facts.12
I hate those "simple DIY" instructables. Just had to build something I had to get. Found out one "simple DIY". It requires owning a power drill with a table mount. And a pipe threading machine. Yes, I surely have a drill mount for drilling thru some steel, I know how to use a CNC machine, and maybe have a little metal foundry in my flat. But hey, it's a DIY not 'go to nearest store and buy that friggin piece you need' so you should have prepared yourself for some difficulties.
It's not supposed to be easy!
I still wonder why the author not assumed everyone own a metal foundry, after all. It would be much easier for all of us.
And I ended using PCV, glue, and a spare bottle. Had to buy drill for glass, less than $3. Wasted few bottles to cut out what I wanted. Beer was quite good, thou.1
Why the fuck people advertise themselves as 24h service if they work 9..17?! I need a fucking plumber to change leaky toilet seat. Called over ten different guys, and, guess what? They don't give a shit!
Meanwhile I used to have clients calling in the middle of the night or early in the morning. And I DON'T work 24/7.
What's fucking wrong with this world where you have to study long years and buy pricey tools and be available to the client all the time, and on the other hand you don't have to even start a college, just have right tools and materials, and you have better job? I could become a plumber. At least my work wouldn't be outsourced to India...
Sorry you Indian guys ;-)9
Wordpress. The only backdoor with a plugin system and CMS included.
I have to clean ANOTHER. Hacked WordPress site. One wrong decision and you have to support it for the life time :'(9
Why the hell devRant is becoming a general discussion/image board?
Guys, come on! It's 'devRant' not damn 'postAnything'!
Do not spam here with shitty joy-less rant-less posts!
I fall in love with devRant because I can sympathize with people having similar issues and learning what they do or at least reading sarcastic comments. Not because fcking generic posts that are flooding the main board!
Come on, at least mark your post as !rant so that it's easier to skip those posts.
How long will it take to have cat pictures and me memes posted here?6
Windows updates delayed by company SecTeam policies, couple of PC nearby infected with WannaCry, but using Linux is still not supported.
Installed Linux on my own and dealing with all that stupid stuff on my own. F*ck!2
