D-4got10-01280490d> 'We don't know if he rage-quit or was fired. Makes me really uneasy.'.
Those situations are fucked up, indeed. It's the unknown that haunts us. -
jestdotty611389dby this rate I had been bait and switched to contractor so two birds one stone I emailed the owner and said my rate will be increasing to market rate, here's market data citations, and here's a two week notice if you say no (because 2 week notice is in the contract to quit / change something). guy acknowledges but never okays it, so week 3 I don't show up and suddenly he cares and wants to talk about it (geez). owner says I can't just ask for 156% raise. excuse me I've been underpaid by that much for 3+ years, forget your silly insult imagine how insulted I feel about the lost income, which is your ONLY job back to me? (I never said / shared this and instead remained professional) he also made up stuff about me to slander, I thought it was just a sales / negotiation tactic tho since he's a sales / negotiation guy and I simply ignored it. he then says yes (I guess cuz I'm not budging) but writes 5 pages of responsibilities I have to do -
jestdotty611389dI am just monumentally upset by this I don't get back to him for days. because I already did every single thing, and even more. So I just end up quitting / not renewing the contract because just wtf man. I'm overqualified for my own supreme raise and I'm still viewed as shit despite it, seriously?
anyway later I run into a co worker at a metro station, and he's super surprised and stressed / relieved to see me. Seems like nobody told him what happened to me i guess. which is weird to me. Because I am not the company, and it was up to the company if they were going to accept the new raise contract or not. I figured if you were a responsible company you would communicate such things internally, but evidently not. Maybe he thought I got fired. I didn't think our friendship was that close for him to be THAT stressed out by me leaving so I thought it was a little creepy at the time -
whimsical174389dFucking privacy reasons. I also had one coworker that quitted because of a fight with the employer. Both did not want to tell me what happened. But worst is that the coworker himself did want to tell me because we knew eachother well and I even visited him at his home in another country. So I'm like, wtf. Sigh. I hope he fucked the boss his wife or something. Else I do not forgive that easily.

djsumdog686889d@jestdotty wow. I think I did pay negotiation once at my very first job. Never again. I just go back on the market. I've always had a company offer me at least $5k more if I pass the interview. I put in a 2~3 week notice and move on. I've never taken a counter offer. Only times I've gone back down on income were the times I just left to go travel, or after layoffs or something.
Taking new jobs or moving is great. If you're there 1.5~2 years, you get going away parties, everyone is nice to you and wishes you well and you can collect a stack of LinkedIn contacts you can ask to be references later
Honestly, I tell everyone they should switch jobs by the 3 year mark always. We're not Japan/Korea where they're one company for life. You're always going to be $10k under market in the US, (probably only €2k ~ €3k in the EU; that market seriously underpays senior engineers).
I'm at the 8 month mark and really need to update my resume again

We were told that one of our frontend guys is no longer with the company. There was no notice period. Our manager couldn't really say anything for privacy reasons. I sent him a text but haven't heard back. We don't know if he rage-quit or was fired. Makes me really uneasy.
