donuts238486y@bahua why would they tax a recurring digital subscription. And they do take a cut...

Google doesn't tax anything. By definition they cannot. Your governmental entity(federal, state, county, municipal, TIF district, etc), as applicable, does. All Google is doing is complying. Fox and Rogus offer you a monthly subscription for $1.99US. Google, who brokers the transaction and takes a cut of that $1.99US, is informed that some entity under which you may be taxed has decided to levy a tax from you on it. I'm guessing a ballot question from November established a new tax where you live that was effective on the first of the year. -
donuts238486y@bahua I think the conversation goes more like this
Google: pick some prices, they must be $x.99. Oh and by the way we take a 30% cut off wherever you pick. Pick wisely....
Oh now we're going to collect tax on this amount, how much it that we actually will pass to the government only we know... But now all your users will have to pay that themselves... We still get the 30% cut though... and that x.99 rules still applies, you can't lower the amount to round the after tax amount to x.99...
TLDR: Even though they don't set the prices or sell anything, they are the ones making the rules and so have influential power... -
donuts238486y@telephantasm no but since they control how much they will take for themselves, they informed the price charged and therefore the amount taxed....
$.13 is not much but sort just pissed they get paid for doing nothing/Monopoly power -
donuts238486y@telephantasm nope, I got bigger problems... $1500 missing from my bank account recently.... I think the heck screwed up but their call center has a 2hr wait....

bahua129046yIt looks more like you have a material lack of understanding of how taxes work. Google isn't collecting your taxes. your taxing authority is collecting them. Google is just obeying your taxing authority, because if they did not, they would be in a great deal of trouble. I am certain that if you inquired, Google would be happy to break down the taxes you're now paying. Or if you're a bit more industrious, you can look at the ballot and results in your most recent election, and find out what new or increased taxes may have been passed. In any case, Google is 0% to blame for any of your troubles in this matter.

donuts238486y@bahua I would charge a user $1 a month but because Google takes 30% I'm going to charge $2. Anyway I'm done arguing, this app store issue is all over the internet...
Hey I noticed this month devrant++ subscription is $2.12 on Google Play. The usual is $1.99.
Did anyone else notice? did Google start taxing subscriptions? That's sort of cheap of them... They already take a 30% cut and they can't foot the tax bill?
