JavaScript? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

JK. Honestly, all I can say is the next fad will come, then the next, then the next... They'll all explode for a bit, accumulate band wagoners, calm down... Wash, rinse, repeat...

Oh and PHP will still be around. :P

I remember a couple of years ago when i was learning java, everyone was like "java is dumb. Go to javascript"
I've been learning js for a couple of months now and everyone is like "javascript is dumb. Go to python"
Is it because of me? Just tell me politely and I'll get out. Damn!

So I was thinking about learning JavaScript. But if it's on its way out, which other web language should I choose?

    Fad

an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived; a craze.

JS first appeared in 1995 and has become a very popular backend choice since node.js first proper version in 2011.

So JS has been with us for over 20 years and is still the only option for frontend web programming. Hardly a fad.

All you people hating on JavaScript are really hating on node.js and the million odd frameworks/libraries.

@gogo199432 it's not on its way out. You still need JavaScript for the frontend. Learn as many languages as you can. Get familiar with using nodejs and give golang a try. PHP will be around forever so get used to looking at that as well.

@tmpnull I'm actually not a JS hater, and wasn't calling it a fad. It was a sarcastic, 1-line response to the weekly question. That's why I started the next line with JK (just kidding).

@NeedsMoreDivs my response isn't a direct response to you. It's a general dig at all the people on devrant, including people commenting on this thread, who shit all over programming languages and the people that use them simply because it doesn't fit in with their conformist uninnovative way of thinking. They just want everything to stay exactly as it was when they started.

@tmpnull ah. In that case, carry on.
