WTF Python!!! "Master" and "Slave" perfectly convey the concept. In the English language many words have different meanings based on their context. It's plainly obvious that no allusion to human slavery is meant in the context of software or hardware module relationships. I don't even think it is problematic. The real problem seems to be the people who are taking terms outside their intended space. Why are we linking a scar on human history to terminologies explaining technical relationships?
Then lets also ban 0 and 1 because it can offends non-binary peoples!

Biggest terminal hack I've discovered till now which is so fucking obvious I can't believe I literally just started using it:
Executing the date command right before and after another command/series of commands to see how long shit takes.

This is incredibly useful when rendering loads of data in screen sessions!

Finally finished the blanket I’ve spent a month crocheting without a pattern after teaching myself to crochet at, like, the beginning of the month. It’s huge (this is it laying on a King sized bed) and I made so many mistakes that seem super obvious now, but I’m still weirdly proud of it.

Today I fell down the rabbit hole.
I've been writing some automated tests which found an asymmetry in our algorithm which I think is caused by an off by 1 in even input dimensions.
Change input to odd dimensions, crash due to out of bounds exception.
Switch to debug mode to try to work out why we crash, failing asserts for default function arguments with no obvious reason beyond a helpful message saying they're unsupported.

UI/UX makes a huge difference to average users. Just because you're the developer/expert user, do not think what's obvious to you is obvious to everyone. Think about being in a bubble. This is why you need collaboration with people in a different scope. Or atleast gather feedback from users.

I was helping a coworker debug some issues and she couldn't understand the OBVIOUS error message telling her precisely wtf was wrong and the exact line...

I hired a coder to write a WordPress plugin on my dev server. He no longer works for me and is unreachable. The plugin does most of what it needs to do. But when I dig into the code and the database to find what should be obvious bits of code that do obvious things? None of that code is found. Not even with a recursive directory keyword search for that should be easy to find like CSS class names and IDs. Even the data that comes from the database and that I see on the screen is not actually present in the database!!! Yet it all works. I'm pretty sure at this point the code and data reside in a parallel dimension only the coder can get to. How do I debug code that doesn't actually exist?!13

But some of this shit is so bad that it actually pisses me off. My intelligence feels insulted.
Look at this email. These fuckers spent hours perfecting the Hotmail feel to it. The logo, design and even font are in par. As I started reading the shit, the spelling mistakes are so obvious that I wondered; do these nut suckers know that whatever email editor they use, it autocorrects for you? Are they just ignoring the recommendations? I mean they could've even used the "Did you mean" feature in Google. Or any of the freely available grammatical check sites out there.
Think of this as plagiarism. It's bad but a majority of us can appreciate a well planned out one.
I'm yet to encounter a really good scam email that almost had me click their link. There's always an obvious stand out! Is there like a copyright holder to a perfectly well put scam email?!
(And yes, you just read a rant about someone complaining that scammers aren't doing a great job)

I realized why do i like java the most. Error messages are easy to read and consistent. Never really had to look up an error because the message tells you exactly what is wrong. Hell, you could write a script to self-repair the errors because they are so obvious to fix.

Recently I needed to use a part of the code for a different project and the comments were exceptionally helpful and I would be lost without it.

Shit like this makes me wonder, wtf is going on in some developers heads.
TL;DR: serde devs sneakily forced precompiled libraries onto all of the users of the library using serde_derive without an obvious way to verify, what's in this binary and no obvious way to opt out, essentially causing all sorts of havoc.
The last thing i want in a fucking Serialization library (especially the most popular one) is to not being able to verify if something shady is going on or not. All in the name of compilation speed.

The worst thing of it all is, even if i decide to drop serde as a direct dependency, it will still download the binary and potentially use it, because of transient dependencies. But i guess, i will try to disable serde wherever possible and implement my own solution for that. Thanks but no thanks.

First of all, it's surprising how often people forget commas. That's like, the #1 error with these things.
People just keep going on and on and on and on and on and never break their sentence even if there was supposed to be a comma and it really makes the voice in my head fell like it's running out of breath but it can't stop because the sentence is still going and [...]
The corrections are generally okay. I took many more college-level English classes than I think I needed to, so my English is fairly decent. For this reason, I might be a bit more of a stickler than I need to be for this job.
But this one threw me for a loop, because it's just such a bad correction. Not only does it miss the obvious errors but creates a new, equally obvious error.
This is one of the reasons mturk is interesting to me. Sure, I don't make.... practically anything. But you come into such a variety of work that it's almost addicting in a sense.

Come back from a week's vacation, 3 apps in review. Sit down, set up Xcode, pull latest changes. Run code for the first time, tap through two screens, find a critical bug and I have to reject all 3 apps and resubmit.

Finally I was able to look into css grids in more detail and gotta say it's impressive, also "grid-template-areas" made me chuckle for a bit, at how unusual and easy you can define layouts (even compatible with media queries!), which are also heavily obvious and readable, reminds me of the old games where characters were just symbols.1

There's an obvious error with the way you're merging arrays; instead of conditionally adding items to the existing array, each condition overrides any items added by the previous conditions, which is clearly not the desired behaviour. I'd love to add a test to illustrate this behaviour, but you're not using them. I'd also love to create a simple pull request, but for some fucking reason you're using the worst possible version control system so I can't do that. I've submitted a support ticket along with all the code needed to fix this silly mistake, but apparently you either don't understand 2 lines of your own fucking code, or you didn't even bother looking at it before posting a shitty generic reply about "needing more information". There is no such thing as more information. There are two IFs, and they are supposed to add items to the array, not override any previous items. It's written in your own comments, and it's pretty obvious from the way the rest of the function merges those items.
Also, use a fucking linter, your code is a mess.7 -

Integrating Google recaptcha into my web service. For some reason it always errors, both on a production and development environment, correct domains configured, and with he simplest setup. I'm fucking lost, documentation assumes it actually works. Similar errors on stack overflow and Google groups either got no answers or have obvious issues.

Ok, so I know a bit of Java, still lots to learn but isn't there always! My question to all you poly-linguist programmers is; once you know the basics of OOP are there any obvious hurdles in learning new languages? For instance - do you sometimes accidentally use some Java in C++? Would you all advise to stick to one language and learn it to genius level or does it make you a better programmer to understand a multitude of languages?

Our manager wants us to take the form of:
Feature idea -> Design -> Build -> Test -> Train (explain to users how to use it) -> Deploy
The `Train` step is something rather odd to me, as that would mean teaching every single employee how to use the product we're making.
Wouldn't it just be better to skip the `train` section (and maybe use some kind of wiki?) and try to make everything as clearly labeled and obvious as possible?6 -
I don't like vector math for gamedev. It's not that it's hard. Vector math isn't hard until operations become O(n log n). It's that it's unintuitive, slow to write, and when I finally come to a solution after arduous number crunching, it always looks obvious, boring and kind of ugly. I don't think I could ever write a piece of vector math that I could be proud of.2

PC-Lint is such a useless piece of shit! Tons of warnings with no actual benefit. The obvious motivation behind this crap was to throw as many warnings as this cheap sucker can even generate with no effort to minimise false positives. Typical snakeoil shit, reminds me of ZoneAlarm back then which reported every ping as "attack" just to fool the clueless into buying. Meanwhile, the actual bugs that sophisticated tools can find pass unnoticed through PC-Lint.

My biggest flaw when working in IT: I will refuse to prioritize time- consuming work with minimal added value (cf premature optimization, 0.001% edge cases) when I have a backlog of work that will add much more, obvious value and I will not budge to manager or architect power-plays and tendencies to micromanage my responsibilities, even if it may eventually end up getting me in trouble.2

I believe the answer is no simply because I was a part of Apple's Beta program and it gave me a lot of issues when trying to build applications or set up environments due to obvious compatibility issues. Had someone report a bug that we did not provide an error page for someone using IE8 trying to use our site. My suggestion was to create a page that simply said:

How the hell do you interrupt a download in Sublime FTP???!!! Any obvious hot key such as Ctrl+C doesn't work, and there's not a word about how to interrupt an operation in the docs of Sublime FTP.15

Very surprised to know that an IPhone can geotag the photos even when the SIM card is not active and no means of any internet connection(wifi or someone 's hotspot)
My IPhone 7 is contracted in US with AtAndT,quite obvious it doesn't work in India(I am on vacation).

Talking to friend from school on Discord, and he asked for help with a Minecraft mod. I told him he should learn basic Java, and he said he had taken a couple classes already.(turns out they were small Minecraft modding classes) I was like ok, whatever, and after listening to him work on it, it's now obvious that he knows nothing about Java :/2

Let's say you have a simple location directive like:
location / {
auth_reques /auth;
index index.html;
}
location = /auth {
internal;
proxy_pass <...>;
}
Now guess how often nginx makes a subrequest to /auth.
Thats correct TWO times... "why?" you ask?
Well isn't it obvious that nginx hits the auth request, then rewrites the request to the index file, hits the auth request again because it's technically a different request now and then proceeds to hand out the file?

anyone else having Adventofcode problems? day1 told me the obviously right answer was wrong. after a full day of debugging two obvious lines of code, it finally decided to accept the first answer.

There are times when I'm too tired I forget what I changed in the code so I write just "regular" in the title and nothing at all in the description even though it's very obvious i refactored large chunks of the code and added new ones... Regular riight

Swear some people just want you to do their fucking job as well, why the fuck would the connection strings need to change if the code doesn’t even reach that line maybe try looking again right at the top where it prints a message saying what arguments are required and try using them. Come on if your that stuck step through the lines 1 at a time from the start and it will all become blatantly fucking obvious

What part of cmake generates the link.txt files for gnu make builds ?
The project I'm building right now is consistently skipping adding -ltiff in random links, yet there seems to be no obvious error in the environment this should be happening, however it might be somewhere in the configuration with which I am not familiar.

making a self driving go kart controlled with a rpi, should i use python, java, dart, or something else? python seems like the obvious choice.
i plan on making it have google maps integrated, with netflix and music player, with a touchscreen.
i was thinking c++, but a gui with c++ didn't seem ideal.
what would you use?

I can't tell if I didn't understand an important detail about Rust traits or the system is badly underdesigned, but I keep bumping into situations where the most general correct implementation of an std trait on a container clashes with one of the std implementations, and I would need a very obvious negative statement to make them mutually exclusive (for example that T in MyPtr<T> can never implement Borrow<MyPtr<T>>)3

I started studying JUnit and Mockito and I really don't understand. All the docs and the tutorials around are like "if call this method, then return this object. If the object returned is the one that I expected then test passed". But isn't it obvious that the returned object is the one that I expected? I fucking told it to return that object4

(not really an issue, but still a waste of time and concentration, when every now and then, using more than one branch, small edits, merge, and rebase, git diff complains about "conflicts" that are obvious to solve for a human but still not for a machine, despite the hype about the age of AI, coding co-pilots and the like...)5 -
I've been applying to jobs in Canada while living in the UK. I'm employed here and trying to move, I'm also a UK national. However, my CV is instantly getting rejected by all companies. For some reason nothing i've been working on has been satisfactory lately (failed code reviews requiring me to re do the code).
