Sumafu22486yI like @athlon said, probably it is not an USB-C port but an Thunderbolt 3 port to connect a Thunderbolt 3 display.
-
Sumafu22486y@sunfishcc Thunderbolt 3 also includes the USB specification. Maybe you can use it for both.
-
athlon173216y@irene that moment when you're too broke to have a motherboard with USB-C support, so you buy GTX 1080 Ti to make a use of your USB-C SSD
-
athlon173216y@sunfishcc MANY? I only see smartphones (but they always come with USB-C to USB 3.0 cable), SSDs and screens (which both just because of that single connector are stupidly expensive).
Maybe there are USB-C mouses, or keyboards, but what's the point if, as you mentioned, buying them while having single USB-C port -
@athlon just imagine you got entire set of external devices for Apple, and you suddenly want to use windows(don’t ask me why) external ssd is a big one btw
-
athlon173216y@sunfishcc I can't even connect iPhone to MacBook! Why would I want a MacBook in the first place?! Also most Macs have 1 to 2 USB-C ports
-
@irene type C just the port shape. Samsung only provide USB 2.0 to type C cable out of the box. But 3.1 gen2 is much faster. Even just 2.0, it’s bidirectional🙃🙂
-
@irene Yes you can! Just for testing 🥺 give some credit for nvidia doing the good thing, which they rarely do
-
athlon173216y@sunfishcc I don't need a Pixel, I'm more than happy with my OnePlus which in fact has USB-C and really fast charging, and I can connect it to my desktop without USB-C easily!
Anyway, let's say that your scenario happens and I switch from Apple to Linux computer (why I wouldn't just install the Linux on my current Mac?).
There's HUGE chance that I already have USB-C hub which lets me connect USB-A, more USB-C, HDMI and Ethernet (there are hubs like that), so that doesn't seem to be an issue. -
olback109796yThe USB-C port on RTX cards is ment for VR-Headsets. USB-C delivers enough power, data and image. So yes, it *SHOULD* work as a regular USB port.

athlon173216y@irene Europe, to be precise - The Netherlands.
@electrineer I hope you won't say that to person with HIV 😂 -
athlon173216y@sunfishcc OnePlus 6 has better screen, better built quality, better camera, has stock Android with great tweaks and you get one for the same price.
-
@sunfishcc now that you've had it for a while, what do you think of the RTX 2070?
-
athlon173216y@irene okay, but it's a near stock experience. And the tweaks (like dark mode, or OnePlus gestures) are great.
-
@RememberMe won’t never ever buy gigabyte again! I know it sucks, but my friend convinced me his motherboard n graphics card survived after aio cooler leak.
I would say get cheapest rtx2080 probably much better🤔 -
@irene while not trying to do so all my daily use peripherals are USB C.
Portable display,
Mouse
Phone
They all need an adapter at the moment, but I would love to USB C everything. What is against that? -
@irene internet, its a wireless mouse but charged with USB C. Its a logitech MX Vertical
-
@irene when I am looking for a new laptopfor more than 500 euros almost all have a USB C port
