Kaivo1628yAlias React as wordpress and tell them it's wordpress. If only they could leave us with the stack we want.
-
"We want to be able to manage some content"
"I have a foot accelerating towards your ass that you can manage instead" -
A compromise... Suggest they create a Wordpress site on a sub-domain and read the RSS feed rendering it in ReactJS. Everybody wins! :D
-
tahnik387588y@Letmecode They're fucking idiots. It's a news/event website. At first they said they don't care about any frameworks as long as they can post news/events and people can buy the tickets.
All of a sudden they sent me email that they want WordPress because It's modern. That's the only reason they showed fuuuuuccckkkkk -
React sometimes gets used where it doesn't bring particular value because it is new and shiny and devs want it on their resumes. But your application is perfect for the technology! WordPress? Are they KIDDING???
-
hyoori528yas long as they pay you monthly, or if you have the rights to charge extra money for that, try to be relaxed and enjoy. dev life is always like that somehow. i cri everytiem :'(
but if they don't,
destroy. -
tahnik387588y@hyoori @Mitch377 Well I did quit immediately. It was a free website for a society (it's quite a big society and I wanted to apply my react knowledge).
The fact that they have the gut to change the spec all of a sudden while I am doing this for free is what amazes me. -
Well i doubt a website could take 2 months to be made with wordpress. But i dont know the specs of the site so i cant take sides. It usually takes a week to make a news site in wordpress.
-
tahnik387588y@deadpool88 I was using React not Wordpress. My main aim was use the volunteer work to learn and apply React as they didn't have a tight deadline
-
chrizzle7268yI don't understand why you can't take your nice react site and content manage it with Wordpress. Aren't the two mutually exclusive concerns?
To be fair, I've only ever used .NET CMSs so perhaps I don't fully understand. -
hyoori528y@tahnik okay I just read the rest of the comments in here and now I understand the context. quitting is the best option you've done because they won't appreciate your skills no matter what, simply because they don't understand how code production works.
now turn on the tv and finish the series you really like until you forget about this! 😄😄 -
@tahnik don't bother...been doing free stuff for people for years... You never get recognized or appreciated... Make something cool and stick it on github
-
Keep the front end, use WP as backend and turn on the JSON api... get your data into your React front end with that! Saves some time at least!
-
@deadpool88 depends what your doing and what design. Some Wordpress sites can take many a month depending on the amount of custom functionality!
-
ultrono23508yHoly god, I feel your pain. I hate using Wordpress at the best of times and only do so at gun point.
-
I am probably going to get shot but I like WordPress to work with as a content creator but and to create a theme and plugins for. Just don't ask touch the core.
