I mean more context is helpful.

What will you use it for? Do you prefer macos or widows? Or you going to put Linux on it?

@11000100111000 right... It was a generic list of factors into choosing one

if you don‘t think about the macbook pro then choose the xps. a MBA is way to expensive for what it is able to do, but if you really want a mac take the pro, i own one by myself and i love it. Not a single problem since i bought it.

While mac is worshipped by many - xps has all the things plus linux if needed, with upgradable storage at the bare minimum...

i need it for machine learning and android development

@SpiDee running heavy workloads on a thin laptop like an XPS/air isn't recommended because it'll usually thermal throttle, but if you do want to, then XPS any day. MacBook air would be really bad for ML.

I’d recommed a thinkpad or a razer for ml and heavy stuff. But if you have a pc or something you can offload the heavy stuff a macbook or an xps is not a bad choice.

MacBook air won't handle ML. Speaking from experience

I'd avoid anything <14" as the hardware really isn't good enough (cooling and battery size puts some nasty restrictions on what you can get in such a small laptop and the price of 13" models tend to be a bit insane), heck i would recommend a 15.6 or even 17" laptop if you don't need to carry it around all the time simply because of the better hardware you can have at a much lower price.

@ItsNotMyFault that seriously depends. My wife has a 13" mbp pro 2015 - it lasts longer than my 15" mbp pro 15, has half the power but you are free to use it as it's capable of 3d rendering if needed (slow but will last 3h on battery then).

I'd not recommend them due to the reasons we've had, see my other rant about macs but overall - 13" can be enough

@potata 13 is all you need. 15 is a waste

@Techno-Wizard but it depends :) For some things, I'd never choose < 15", for others a 13" and even 11" is just fine...

XPS...but if you can get the Pro, I’d suggest that. I personally really love the UX with MacOS. I have a windows PC and MBP and it’s nice having different platforms to work with, depending on my project.
