@Root Well, normally I’d agree if we’re talking about adults. What prompted the post was that these are targeted attacks on kids...other peoples’ and, potentially, mine.

@stackodev Its true, kids are really mean to one another. Guess it helps them build a resistance to it. idk

1. If your child is dumb enough to hurt themselves because a creepy thing online told them to, you’re a terrible parent
2. Why does your child have unfiltered access to the internet? See 1.
3. Why is your child on social media / messaging apps? See 1.

Honestly? It’s the same as the tide pod challenge (and it’s predecessors), natural selection has found a new vector through the internet. Don’t be surprised when some people don’t make it.

@Brolls I don’t know if you’re a parent but no amount of good parenting can halt some childrens’ impulses, impressionability, and phobias. The truth is, some kids believe the threats in spite of good parenting. Some kids see this crap on friends’ devices away from home or even at school because how do schools filter Peppa Pig for Momo interstitials? And most parents don’t know this Momo crap exists, so they can’t get out in front of it and preempt the bad influences. It’s the story of the ages when it comes to parenting.

@stackodev I honestly don’t see it as any excuse, you either supervise your children, or you teach them to avoid these things / how to cope.

Obviously there are issues around them seeing it at school before they’re old enough for you to prepare them for it, but at which point it becomes a matter between parents and between parents and the school 🤷‍♂️

It’s the old adage of “if your friend jumped off a bridge, would you?”

Honestly, it really does feel as though we’ve made a terrible mistake with the internet and social media sometimes... where has all the damn common sense gone?

Yeahhhh. Looks like I’m probably the only parent here. I also was the best parent in the world whose kids would never do anything wrong or stupid.
