My employer uses latest and greatest macbooks. It's fuking awesome. I wasn't a fan until I found the ease of android and iOS development on it. I even started using Atom for web development. And I bought a Mac mini for a dedicated jenkins server. I don't think I'll ever go back to windows. There's just no point. I know it's expensive but it gets the job done. No more fukin mac VMs on VMware. Fuk that shit.

When you go Mac, you can't go back. Found this out like 4 years ago, every time i touch a windows system, feels like I'm working on a torture.

Apple traps you in its beautiful, mostly user-friendly prison. Everything is functional, solid, and pretty. But there is little you can do to make it home.

Microsoft doesn't give a shit about you or breaking your environment. Good only for gaming, and only because Vulkan isn't the standard yet. There is also more malware for Windows than all other OS's combined.

GNU+Linux (😅) is a lot of effort, but overall more reliable, customizable, and performant.

I think the second best thing about devrant is how many people you can trigger with a single comment.

@Root I agree with your comment! I would like to piggyback and add that GNU/Linux can be as much or as little effort as you want it to be depending on your distro, and that most of the effort is in the initial setup post-installation

A caveat, though? most distros will eventually break themselves (e.g. arch especially), so there is some maintenance load, too, even if that maintenance is just installing a fresh copy of a new version.

I honestly can't remember the last time I spent time "customizing" my machine. I use it to develop and browse the internets. What do people even customize in Linux distros? Placement of the app dock..?

@VaderNT I honestly could care less about most differences. I just need to run iOS and android projects and develop as efficiently as possible. Got bills to pay. Not trying to loligag around theming and customizing the location of the app dock. Lmao kids.. 😂
