The sharpening was done with a couple lines of java/greenfoot (there are better ways, sure, but I didn't want to have to set up/familiarize myself with anything for this) -

They just bought 2 fucking 23" extra monitors for every developer in my org.

When you realize you had sharpening enabled in your monitor settings and you turn it off and shit just looks so much better...
I mean this is a necessary setting when using VGA but this monitor is connected via DVI!
Also some people just do not seem to notice this and leave this enabled on their screens.
