AboutMustache status: the mustache is sadly gone. I have a love-hate relationship with technology in general and programming in particular. Full stack, 6 years. Didn't do anything useful during these years. 🃏

SkillsC# Actually better than Java. JS Actually the best language. HTML+CSS Six years spent trying to center divs. SQL: Constantly fighting the urge to drop the prod database.

Our CTO doesn't believe that tests improve code quality. We have no tests on any level, no testers/QA, no code reviews. Nada. I wonder why production keeps breaking 🤔 Guess I'll start looking for another job 🤷♂️20

Accidentally hugged my boss. It's fine, I can't have more than 100 years left to carry this memory around anyways.26

Small company.
3 months in.
My boss leaves for vacation.
I take his place.
Holy shit, this is intense.
One week down, two to go.1 -
Close to delivering a project on time. Nothing spectacular or particularly big. But it's been my baby and I could introduce other devs to the codebase without having any "negative" feedback on the design; only minor improvements that made total sense.
We've had one technical disagreement where I very unjustly had to pick my suggested solution. The discussion didn't lead to an agreement and we couldn't stay blocked. Old me would have chosen the design that did not (in my not-so-humble opinion) make any sense, just not to step on any toes. Probably imagined toes and steps and whathaveyous as well.
We're making good progress. We're learning from each other. I like this.
This team lead thing is very temporary, but I haven't grown this much in ages. It's just a regular old job where I help someone else get rich, but it's a great tool for self development. I guess I could be spending my time worse... huh, I like the sound of that. -
Meeting agenda, don't talk outside it. Have separate meetings for items that aren't of interest for everyone attending.4

1. I like problem solving.
2. I like mucking about in systems that consist of many interrelated parts and learning how they interact. I like to imagine that I'd make a decent mechanic.
3. I'm fond of building stuff with abstractions and concepts. I'm not the brightest, but I'm drawn to intellectual and creative endeavors. -
I'm more excited for my devRant dual monitor setup than my work one. I see I still got my priorities in order 🥴

Was going to get some REST but her API was wide open:
PUT my/boner/inside/her
413 Request Entity Too Large
Fuck.14 -
Public REST (-inspired) API. Should I skip numeric IDs because it's easy for consumers to snoop around?
Example:
POST api/foo
201 Created api/foo/69
Uh, I'll get 68 just because I can. Hopefully it returns Unauthorized, unless we some kind of bug.
Is it just security by obscurity if I use, like, guids or something instead of sequental IDs?17 -
My phone just froze. But this one time, instead of being mad at it for stopping I had the thought that it's probably working harder than when things are going smoothly. So I watched with compassion as my phone tried to resolve its internal struggle, it being so overwhelmed that it could no longer communicate with me. It was like watching someone having an anxiety attack. There, there. Take all the time you need, little friend. You're safe in my hands ♥️8

I want to start meeting new people. What can I expect from Tinder?question how is babby formed? these are not relevant i'm like js: a charming mess math hard but pee-pee harder33

I'm starting to have some doubts about carrying around a phone in my pocket all day. What if my tender swedish meatballs get cooked by the radiation? Not good.14

Got a proper mechanical keyboard for work instead of that nasty third generation hand-me-down cramped layout crap they gave me. I also got a small plant for my desk. Fuckin fantastic.6

First month at the new job and it's alright. Fine. Totally O-K. And you know what? I'm happy with that. Like, happy-in-general happy. Yikes! I've got a good routine going where I actually do stuff that matter to me and I can also see some opportunities on the horizon; a bit like a Choose Your Own Adventure kind of thing. I've also got this thing - a date? - planned with someone I bumped into while running an errand. What the fuck is happening... 😅✌️1

Okay you bastards ya got me: I fucking enjoy using Linux as my dev environment.
There, I SAID IT -
BUT DON'T THINK FOR A SECOND IT MEANS THAT I STOPPED HATING IT
Oh the fucking love hate relationship to fucking Linux.
"Hey, ihatecomputers! How many hours per year did you spend fixing internet connectivity issues on Windows?" you ask. Well, close to fucking 0 you goddamned imbecile. But on Linux? I don't even want to talk about it.
And what about that time when I wanted to connect my bluetooth headphones so I could listen to music while studying? Well, by the time my headphones were connected to my machine (usually a one second operation) I had no time left for, you know, actual studying. Oh my god, it's the most trivial fucking thing.
Well, at least that particular issue got solved.
Unlike that fucking Ethernet connection which has been fucking out of commission since I started using fucking Linux. Wifi works just well enough to make it not worth pouring more time into troubleshooting that shit, but just barely though because my wifi IS FUCKING DOGSHIT ON LINUX
...
But fuck me if it isn't it the most lean thing ever! It's the goddamned opposite of bloated. So smooth and snappy. And free as in slurred speech, or whatever. It makes me happy. When I'm not seething with rage, that is.
Yeah I guess that's it, thanks for tuning in.

I'm about to take full responsibility for front-end solutions plus doing UI/UX design, and I've pretty much completed the official React and Redux tutorials.
In my defense I only said I was interested in UX but I have a creeping suspicion they think I'm a UX God.
I also used AngularJS for years and I feel that React speaks to me in a completely different way. It's exactly how I want to do things. Big fan of functional programming as well... So I think I'll thrive with React/Redux and friends if I can get some hours in before things kick off. It's just enough pressure for me to put in the work without feeling overwhelmed... for now.
It's thrilling though. I'm somewhere between excited that I'll get to show off my skills and scared that I'll be exposed as a fraud. I have a mild case of impostor syndrome though, so I think it'll work out in the end.2 -
Maybe this ever tightening straight jacket of surveillance and restrictive legislation is pushing the internet in the right direction. We might end up with a proper free and anonymous interwebz.
Personally, I'll start worrying when they ban the operation of Tor nodes... And that will probably pass easily since regular folk don't know the implications. The smear campaign will be ez mode: just call it a hotbed of pedophilia and criminal activity and push the new laws as something along the lines of Put an End to Naughty Individuals and Scumbags (PENIS) act. Done and done.
I mean... if they can threaten to take away the memes without being stopped then there's nothing they can't do, lol.3 -
Let's split joke and meme into two different categories so that we can have shitty memes under one tag and (hopefully OC) jokes in the other. Then we could filter out low effort memes and still get the occasion joke. We need jokes.3

We rewrote the whole thing, except for iFraming some old pages in. We had to, the system was fucking awful and couldn't cope with any of the new mission critical requirements.
Client didn't understand the scope. Our project leader somehow snuck it in and we worked on it for months. We were sure we'd be kicked off the whole project... Somehow things didn't crash and burn. How it didn't blow up defies rational thought and the laws of physics. The new system worked, the client was happy, and boss made a lot of money.
Lead dev worked weekends for what feels like an eternity, it really was his baby and no one else on our company could have done it. It's where I finally learned how to do things the proper way; DDD, unit testing and TDD, architecture, building strong components in front-end, you name it. Before that I had a great nose for code smells and how not to do stuff, but now I got to see a proper system for the first time. It was glorious.
Then lead dev left and the system degraded quite a bit because new team didn't keep to the architectural patterns or general best practices. But we had a good run.1
