I think I found the smallest IDE,
It's lightweight, works with any filetype, can easily handle graphics as well30
Microsoft is investing in Git, VSCode, Electron, Github, Bash-on-Windows. Things that decentralize and help prevent lock-in.
Apple is taking away the only universal cross platform graphics system (OpenGL), locking developers into Metal, and taking away our escape keys.25
This made my day.
This really makes me wanna go back on Twitter just to follow the guy who posted it.3
I have upgraded my graphics from medium to high. And also set anti aliasing to the highest and now everything seems beautiful.16
Holy s**t, I was wondering why my fans were noisy and my computer so warm lately. So I checked inside to see this. The CPU fan is fucking resting on the graphics card like Dr House on his stick.19
Other people playing games: "Nice graphics!"
Me playing games: "Wonder how they did that shader..."8
Someone at work trying to impress me: I recently got a really nice PC! It runs Microsoft 10 and has an i5 graphics card and a high performance case!

A quite normal Windows day:
Bios to Windows: "Go now! Get up!"
Windows to Bios: "Always slow with the young circuit boards."
"I've got something weird on screen."
Windows' answer: "Ignore it first."
Hardware assistant to Windows: "The user puts pressure. He wants me to identify this thing. Could be an ISDN card."
Windows: "Well, well."
Unknown ISDN card to all: "Will you please let me in?"
Network card to intruder: "You can't spread out here!"
Windows: "Quiet in the case! Or I'll cut both their support!"
Device Manager: "Offer compromise. The network card is allowed on Mondays, the ISDN card is on Tuesday."
Graphics card to Windows: "My driver retired yesterday. I'm crashing now."
Windows to graphics card: "When will you be back?"
Graphics card: "Well, not at first."
CD-Rom drive to Windows: "uh, I would have a new driver here..."
Windows: "What's ich´n supposed to do with it?!"
Installation software to Windows: "Leave it, I'll mach´ that already."
Windows: "That's nice to hear."
USB connection to interrupt management: "Alarm! Just been penetrated by a scanner cable. Request response."
Interrupt management: "Where are you coming from?"
USB connection: "I was in the computer right from the start. I'm joined by another colleague."
"You're not on my list." - "Say something."
Windows: "Hopefully there won't be another printer."
Graphics card: "The new driver twitches."
Windows: "We'll just have to get the old one out of retirement."
Uninstall program to new driver: "Go away."
Unwanted driver: "Fuck you."
Windows to Norton Utilities: "Kill him and his brood!"
Utilities to driver rests: "Sorry, we have to delete you."
Important system file: "Arrrrrrgghh!"
Windows on blue screen: "Gib´, the Norton Boys are over the top again."
Blue screen to user: "So, that's it for this week."
Excuse me for stealing your time
And I know it's way too long8
Hate to say this.
I regret my last year's purchase of macbook air. I could've easily purchased a powerful laptop with atleast 16 GB RAM and high end Graphics.... Instead i choose to go with this piece of shit for a change.. :/
Also Ubuntu is much user friendly than macos.31
Favorite stickers are definitely the double-take-inducing stickers I made myself. Here's an AMD in Intel style sticker. I also made AMD Radeon in Nvidia GTX style, and vice versa of both of those. Plus an Intel Potato Inside, and Intel HD Graphics in Nvidia style.
They hold up better than the actual Nvidia stickers, although the color is a little off.9
Brought two laptops: Linux and windows
Forgot charger for windows.
Graphics not working properly in linux
Three hours of package installation, documentation diving, package removal, driver fuckery and other assorted fun
I can now play Minecraft.6
Seeing someone prototype a 3D game with complex lighting using OpenGL in a 15 minute video (It was sped up about 4x but, still, fuck me)
Using c. Not c++.
He also did 3D graphics in BASIC from scratch to explain how they work, generally.16
After almost 3 years of hard work here’s my Bedroom setup. I produce music as a hobby in addition to dev’ing and 3d graphics(blender/VR/opengl) stuff. Sorry for the unmade bed 😅. Build my first custom pc last October

Other: I need a computer with a very good graphics card because I do a lot of powerpoint presentations and excel charts.
Me: Sure, go on!6
So this is one of first ever games I have ever created. I made it when I was 11 years old. Today I've deicded to remake it with nicer graphics and in Unity3D, because why the heck not?
Wish me luck!12
All these fortnite plyers thanking the bus driver but none of them thanking their graphics drivers2
I added ~800 lines of code to my graphics engine today and not a single bug (that I discovered so far :D )12
I have a laptop which I bought for the sole purpose of gaming and I bought a hell lot of games off steam to startup.
But the problem here is I have to run those games on Windows (nvidia graphics card) and I only have a primary hdd and no ssd. Even though the ram and processor is up to speed due to high I/O on disk, I am not able to get a good performance out of it. To top it off random Windows processes hogging hdd in the background.
Any suggestions on what to do?3
This is my computer workstation.
The computer has 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, a Radeon R5 graphics card and soon I will add an SSD hard disk on which I will install the operating systems.16
My former team opened two different positions to replace me: senior computer vision engineer and senior computer graphics engineer.
If you combine the required experience years, it's roughly my age 😂
Talk about unrealistic and unnecessary job requirements....4
Thought of buying an HTC Vive then I realized I would need to add a few things to my shopping list:
- 16 GB Ram cards
- Windows 10
- 2 TB Hard drive
- NVIDIA Graphics Card
- HDMI Display Port/Controller
- 2 monitors
My parents ended up getting me a Google Cardboard6
Alright. I'm done with the basic documentation. here are the links to all the stuff I have been working on:

Nvidia makes real time ray tracing and a ehole bunch of graphics stuff beyond our imagination but they can't make a linux driver that actually works well... For ducks sake12
Do I have the worst computer here on devRant?
amd 6450HD graphics
4 GB ram
Track pad not working
Alright, question about graphics cards:
I want to get a six-monitor graphics card.
Currently looking at one but there's a thing:
The visiontek radeon 7750 seems great, manufacturer is AMD.
When searching for images of the *visiontek* radeon 7750 vs the AMD radeon 7750, I get different pictures, according to some product pages the visiontek amd radeon is produced by amd though....
They both have six inputs..
Point is: I'm going to run Linux on it (i refuse to install malware/spyware on my system for obvious reasons) and AMD has native Linux drivers for the radeon 7750: are those also for the visiontek radeon 7750?
I'm lost here. Help!22
I finally got an acceptable version of my assembler done. Just a pic of my terrible code for now, I will share the links to it, my Virtual cpu emulator and my graphics emulator / driver once I am done writing readme files for them.15

Do you too?10
Fucking Windows... If you don't have enough memory for everything youre supposed to do, then kill whatever you want, but not the fucking graphics driver.
What should I do then? Close something different? Fuckin Monkeys.2
Trying to install new proprietary graphics drivers on my desktop. Reboots. Black screen. SSHes into computer uninstalls new graphics driver and reinstalls Xorg.

I took a pinball game I found on GitHub, forked it and added graphics along with modified the physics a bit.
I have a customer who repairs pinball machines.
I'm gonna sneak this into his site free of charge just cause it would be badass.1
So yesterday evening I was going to play some games. Checked NVIDIA and saw new update (no beta). So I went to install it and it literally fucked up my graphics card.
One monitor stopped working instantly and the other one got this old tv effect like when you had no signal.
Took me two hours to downgrade to my old drivers because I couldn't fucking see shit.
PLS NVIDIA DONT PUSH NEW DRIVERS IF YOU FUCKIN NOT TESTED THEM13
Introduction to graphics
Lecturer says "this is a very practical course. In fact I think we should have a practical exam"
All students agree. He would sort out that matter.
Meanwhile he taught us how to making shapes in java, then a house, then a game...
And the exam was for us to make a building where a user can walk through the building using the arrow keys...
What fun we had. We got out marks...and everybody did well!!!!1
Can we stop releasing special edition products and calling them 'Founders Edition'... How do you get the 'Founder' part?
Primary example are Google and NVIDIA, massive companies with enough money to do whatever they wanted and selling a controller or graphics card as 'Founder' is just bullshit, we aren't founding anything, its already there so just call it what it is, a slightly 'Pretty Edition' and call it a day .-.20
You get a new graphics card and monitor, so you can have three displays and then u notice your PC motherboard has no slots! 😥😥😥😤😤11
Last year I had a meeting with the newly hired Senior Graphics Designer.
She was presenting the new design of the company's website with all the features she wants.
After a few minutes, I asked her, did you design it as a responsive website?
"What is that?" She said. I said that the website should display or have atleast a design for mobile view and desktop view.
And she replied, "is that a requirement?"
Talks to myself: how the hell we hire designers like this?
PS, she earns 4x my salary5
Playing games, especially ones with stunning environment and good graphics, when I need to relax I just roam around enjoying the scenery and acting like normal people in GTA
*hello from zero dawn3
I was super unproductive the past two weekends, since I lacked the motivation to code. But today I sat my lazy ass down and did some major refactoring in the engine - seems like nothing had been broken.7
When your internship was suppose to be in software development but you end up making logos/graphics and the front-end of a webpage...3
FUCK BITCOIN! YOU CAN'T BY ANY GRAPHICS CARD IN RUSSIA BECAUSE OF THEM! THANK GOD I'M MOVING TO USA13
Oh my god, I just spilled a fluid on my desktop computer, some of it got through the vent holes and it shut down instantly. At first sight my 270€ graphics card took some, the RAM stick also and there are a few drops on the motherboard...
Holy shit I didn't expect this day to end worse than it already was :/5
So apparently this is how you get kids to learn coding.
Graphics after pretty nice but coding by dragging commands takes too long...16
TL;DR: a dude thinks good graphics make a game good.
so every day when the school ends, me, a dude and another girl walk home. as expected we have lots of time to talk about anything. I wanted that day to tell that dude about what I am going to buy on steam summer sales with just 15$.
me: I am going for this summer to play lots of games so I saved some money for this summer sale. do you want to hear what awesome games I am about to buy with just 15$?
dude: yeah, sure thing.
he wasn't expecting much
M: this summer I am going to buy 5 games and maybe keep more for some others. they are so awesome!
D: ok, let's hear those 'awesome' games!
M: the first game is devil daggers, maybe you don't kno...
D: of course I do. is that game
M: I want to get that game just to improve my aim, but maybe I will have some fun.
D: yeah yeah, I know that game
M: *poker face*
I KNEW he doesn't know this game and anything about pc games because of the followings...
M: ok then... I also want to get Half-Life 2 : Episode 1 & 2. they have pretty rich story and I already have both Half-Lives.
D: holy shit but the graphics... ok, one more 'awesome' game of yours.
M: there are 2 episodes, 2 separate games. I really don't care about the graphics, I love the story.
D: continue with your 'awesom' games...
that dude didn't even knew about half-life and said that game is bad.
M: another game I want to get is Battlefront 2, the one from 2005 and...
M: yeah, the new one sucks, and the gameplay in the original is way better and...
D: *starts laughing* 2005!? I thought you were getting the new one. I imagine the graphics being like this car. *points to a fucking car, yeah that kind of comparasion, I know*
after this I was so fucking pissed off. he doesn't even know about some cult classics that are meant to be played. he doesn't even have a pc nor console and he is stating his opinion on fine air for fucks sake!
M: ok, what about getting the facts and then make an opinon.
D: yeah yeah *making fun of me at that point*
I didn't tell him that I wanted to buy the binding of isaac, cause it was enough for me. I told him to watch some reviews on these games and blog posts about them and I am sure tomorrow he will say that he 'wathced' the reviews and that those games are garbage. it's his style to underestimate things. I fucking hate him, not becuase of the games, but because he underestimates everything that is not on his list of 'good games'. that list consists of new games with great graphics(3D only).
sorry if I exaggerate saying that those games are cult classics but I really look forward into buying them.
if you have another indie game to run on this potato machine(2gb ram, pentium dual-core 2.1ghz, gtx 525m) that I should or at least try comment, I am open to suggestions!11
On the twelfth day of Christmas
programming gave to me:
Twelve bugs in public branch
Eleven errors to fix
Ten freaking warnings
Nine Windows Updates
Eight blue screens of deaths
Seven minutes of compiling
Six servers down
Five Android Studio crashes
Four angry stackoverflow devs
Three kernel panics
Two burned graphics cards
One of my coworkers just had a baby, so he left work today and won't be back for a month or more.
We (accidentally) took the client's website down for 3 hours, messed up our git repo and when we finally fixed both things, I had to spend the rest of the day editing fucking vector graphics (which I had never done before and completely suck at).
I never realized how much work this guy does or how important he is until now.14
"Graphics don't matter."
I ranted a while back about gamedev being hard to get into for me, and, today, user @DOSnotCompute posted a similar experience.
I had a couple more thoughts, so thought should post them here (FUCK! It ended up being too fucking long! sorry!)
So I was watching the making of mortal kombat 3 on yt, which was pretty amazing btw because I got to see the actors of the sprites in game which were engraved in my and thousands of others kids minds.
Anyhow, the creators of the series, John Tobias and Ed Boon, were interviewed and what not. And it hit me that while both were the designers, John was the main artist and Ed was the programmer (at least for MK1). Another game that comes to mind Super Meat Boy, and I bet hundreds of others did the same.
And it got me thinking, maybe that's my problem, I just need an artist.
And I think the reason why I never thought of that is because of this idea that graphics don't matter.
"you don't need an artist. You don't need graphics. The most important thing is the gameplay."
What a load of shit.
A lot of people believe that because they got tired of polished AAA games with automatic and predictible gameplay.
People started parrotting this knee jerk of a conclusion since then.
It's dumb. Imagine if Infiminer, one of the games Minecraft was based on, which btw looks terrible, had all the same features Minecraft had.
I would still not touch that shit with a pole.
Graphics ARE important. Games are on the VISUAL medium.
That doesn't mean you're sucking Sony's dick on every AAA release or that every game should be made with UnreUnityCocksReloadedEngine.
Some level of visual craft is required for a game ro be considered such.
(btw, I think most of you guys here get this, not trying to pander, just that I want to make it clear that I'm not accusing this community of being guilty of this)
If a game looks bad (given, bad can be subjective), if it gives the impression that it wasn't seriously made, then you kinda lower your expectations.
People get hyped on games that look good, because it means that the game could be good. Games that look unoriginal or terrible won't get played, wether they're good or not. And I think it's a reasonable reaction.
How many times did I hear things like "Look at x video game from the 90s, the graphics are terrible but it's fun as hell".
That is an absurd statement. The level of production some NES games went through is insane. We're talking millions of dollars for games that today might look primitive.
The graphics weren't shit back then, and even today you could say that they are simpler but also of excellent craftsmanship.
I'm not into creating art, I hate it in fact because you can't quantify the success of produced art.
So, duh, find an artist. Ok, how? This is the part where I have no fucking idea how.
You start spamming shit like "I need an artist" online? I dunno, something for another post I guess.
I guess the most healthy thing I could do is making demos that might look like shit just to get experience so that when I get to find an artist, I have practice already.7
People doing those interactive graphics today, will never understand the joy of seeing an output of line drawing algorithm in C++.
AMAZING MIDNIGHT BREAKTHROUGH!!!
In Android studio if u disable the enable frame check box of the avd and select the graphics option to hardware the avd works a bit faster...even in a system with 4gb ram 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌12
Cool, I got psx working great on arch :D Took a lot of tweaking but so far the graphics aren't too terrible and no popcorn sound xD which is surprising given the old hardware I'm using.3
When you realize you had sharpening enabled in your monitor settings and you turn it off and shit just looks so much better...
I mean this is a necessary setting when using VGA but this monitor is connected via DVI!
Also some people just do not seem to notice this and leave this enabled on their screens.4
Create graphics and web pages that jam! This it! All one needs to be a successful front end developer. :D4
Rant on adaptive brightness....
So basically on my laptop there is this "function" that if the screen is mostly black it lowers the brightness, while if it's white makes it higher....
This means, if you are on devrant or discord or visual studio or any dark UI and then switch to something like google you will get freaking blinded by the max brightness, and when you'll switch back to the first program due to the lower brightness it won't look good and also it will be annoying to the eyes, and you CAN'T make it brighter because that's already the max brightness
WHO THE F*CK THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A GOOD IDEA
If you really want to do something like this at least make it opposite: white screen low brightness, black screen higher brightness.
Well, i don't like it, maybe someone likes it, so can i disable it ?
I have it disabled both in power saving settings and in the intel control panel but it's still active, the only way to fix it is set a registry key i found online and then reboot, but guess what, after one or two weeks it reverts back to enabled :/3
Was interested to learn about OpenGL and WebGL. Just found out no fucking drivers exist for my graphics card on Ubuntu.
WTF AMD !!! Atleast provide some compatibility for your product if I am purchasing it !!!8
guys maybe its sounds funny but im student at high school 1st class and dont have too much money and i need some good notebook for school about 300-400€ will be happy for any idea thanks
(not intel HD graphics) not integrated and at least 2.00Ghz CPU and 4Gb RAM minimum16
Surprinsingly Linux (Elementary OS 0.4) handles Intel HD Graphics 3000 better than Windows 10. Games runs actually better on Elementary, than on Windows on my laptop!11
>Installed a new graphics card (thanks santa <3)
>Boots into Ubuntu
>Try to SSH. No route to device.
>Log in locally. "Failed to start raise network interfaces"
>find out that installing graphics card renamed enp2s0 to enp3s0.
Friend: Is this Nvidia GTX 440 a good graphics card?
Friend: if i get it how do i put it in my computer
Friend: but you are a programmer
Me: exactly, i am not an engineer9
Fuck android studio updates, fuck OpenGL libraries, fuck nvidia graphics on Linux, fuck it all to hell.
These bullshit updates keep breaking stuff in apps, and then the emulator itself gets broken somehow, then I need to run a bullshit shell script I found on some esoteric Arch Linux forum to symlink OpenGL .so libraries on my Linux machine every time I update because fucking OpenGL and nvidia crappy drivers on Linux, which also broke my xrandr configs and segfaulted the xfce4-display app.
Seriously that's horseshit. Linux will never ever ever break through the glass ceiling and become idiot-proof non-tech user friendly like the botnets Winblows and macPrison.8
Started programming on one of these bad boys. It's an ABC80 a Swedish built computer.
Boy did I envy the kids that later got a C64 with color graphics. After all black and white is not that sexy... But I made my first steps in a version of basic none the less.3
Note to self:
Next time, don't write your assembler in python. And using a file as a buffer for your graphics driver probably wasn't the best idea either.12
Back when I was in high school I created something like a simple version of MS Paint using Turbo C where the only graphics library function I used was putPixel().
I was so excited and showed it to my mom and what she said was : "Don't you have MS Paint for this, why do you bother creating a new one? Do something productive with your life."3
Just tried out Minecraft's shader mod SEUS and wondering what the fuck am I doing with my life being a web dev and not working on graphics.
If you have an nvidia gpu, please give it a try.
This is an example with PBR textures, it's mind blowing https://youtu.be/RbM5w9CBDIw
INB4 comment like "peasant web dev wants to do graphics lmao"19
Metro Last Light i love you you know that but dammit you can be one bitch.
You just love that RAM do you ?
Yeahhhhhh you do.
10Gb just like that.
2gb minimum and you eat 5x that on loading screen.
But damn before i upgraded my RAM i had 20 fps on max graphics.
Now i have 60fps. MUHAHAHAHA
Oh i love this game.3
Seriously, fuck Xcode up the ass with a hot poker. What a piece of shit. It can’t even handle graphics as well as MacDraw circa 19895
So glad my laptop is upgradable. A month ago I had 12GB RAM and no SSD, now I have 16GB RAM and a 250GB SSD plus the 1TB HDD that I already had, an i7-4700mq, and a GeForce GT 740M.
Unfortunately the graphics card isn’t working great yet, but my system is on its way!2
Nvidia Optimus sucks ass.
Seriously, getting this shit to run on Linux is a pain, and the pain never ends because you need to run all graphics-heavy programs from the terminal with a specific command, otherwise they can't even fucking detect the video card.6
Operation PiBM 5150 XT is continuing this morning!
Raspberry Pi B+ 900mhz

CGA Graphics and Monitor
Late 2012 Macbook Pro

Second intro to programming class we remade tetris, it was incredible
I probably spent more time making graphics than coding, but I also coded a mini graphics framework for the game
We additionally made incrediblly addictive modifications to the game, it's still super fun to play
We also barely had the knowledge we needed to code it, but I'm still super proud of it6
Got ncmpcpp/cava/mpd working! (if you're wondering why it's ubuntu, just read a few rants ago :'^> ) and loving it. i gues i'll just open this up for people to post rices or any sort of pretty config. i still shill arch, just not if you like steam and have an nvidia graphics card! i'm in school and i don't really have time to sit down and learn what i broke and how to fix it, even if its a minor issue.9
My laptop just died for the third time.
Need to buy a new one. Not a mac.
Linux machine with 15" screen, sdd, usb c, with 8gb ram and a graphics processor.
People talking about NVIDIA drivers on Linux and how bad those are. Pretty sure that if I had any recent GTX 1080 I'e be able to actually play Rocket League on any fucking Linux distro. AMD drivers are worse. How the fuck can I have my RX 480 work in 3D applications (read: Rocket League) on any other Linux distro than Ubuntu 16.04? The internet doesn't have a solution for me.11
The horrendous prices on decent graphics cards now.. people that want gaming cards for gaming can't afford them anymore 😣8
What developer/team thought that this would be a fucking brilliant option to put in this in a game?
Btw there is no VSync option, just “Limit to 30 FPS”11
Fuck graphics cards for only providing 1 hdmi port and then 200 displayport connections. Like every of my monitors have one. Smh2
WOOOOOOOW game just ate all my 7Gb of ram + 5gb of Swap. dang Project CARS 2 really needs it tho. The graphics oh WOOOOOW2
My 12 year old bag, now with graphics, goes with me to client meetings and acts as a deterrent for clients talking shit/fake knowledge or cliches.3
WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME!
My system wont FUCKING POST! IT HAS POWER! IT HAS A CPU! IT HAS A GRAPHICS CARD! AND ALMOST ANY FAN IS FUCKING SPINNING! BUT NO FUCKING POST LED! FUCK THIS!26
This is true incident.
I fried the motherboard of my new Windows 10 Home ASUS UX303UA laptop having 8 fucking gigs of RAM and 1TB HDD with dedicated Nvidia Graphics Card and video memory by just trying to repeat what I love to do which is :
Install and play Crysis on EA Origin paid channel
Install and program on Linux VM using Virtualbox
Listen to music
I am so fucking scared now that I am not going to repeat it again.
I fuck the fear of using such machines.21
My goal before week 200 is to get people to agree that we need some nice polo shirts with devrants graphics on it.3
What's the best laptop for programming?
Not looking for graphics, looking for portability, long lasting battery, good display, SSD13
Since everyone is showing off their setups here is mine:
OS: Windows (for gaming only), Kubuntu (Main Distro), Linux Mint (Sidechick Distro :D)
HDD: I have 3 with about 3.5 Terabyte alltogether
8 GB of RAM
AMD FX 6300 processor
ASUS R7 370 4GB STRIX graphics card
Yeah its an alright PC :D The next one I build will be a beast though. For sure.
Oh and I have a HP Laptop with 8GB of RAM and some Intel CPU. Its alright for coding when I am not at home.12
Anyone here a graphic designer / web developer that got an early look on your life by commanding a turtle to draw pictures for you?
So apparently they're thinking of adding a lightweight graphics library to the c++ spec - opinions?5
I encountered every possible bug setting an Ubuntu VM environment to test my engine. I manually created all the eclipse projects and it's now available on the repo - it compiles and runs.
Suggestions for a good CMake guide?4
Install 18.04 they said. It will be fine they said...
Apperently it hates my intel graphics card. It was giving me artifacts already during installation. It didnt boot after installation and got stuck on a purple screen with the mouse on it.
Got past that with recovery mode. Googled the solution snd they said "move mouse while booting" yeah that doesn't help.
It also didn't recognize the other monitors connected to it and since it comes without unity now everything was not where I'm used to look for it.
3 hours of grub mangleing, driver installing and a unity installation later, it finally works.
Installed terminator and oh, look, one of the most used short cuts is overwritten by some emoji pick bs.
Longest ubuntu installtion ever and it almost fked up the 16.04 aswell which is in dual boot atm.
And before someone says use Arch: ubuntu is a project requirement and Arch is not supported by the tools we need to use.14
Note to self:
Fifty shades of gray is not about CSS or any other subject you care about. Delete mental association so as not to react like Pavlov's dog every time you hear/see title mentioned in mass media.
About to demo my OS project for a systems programming class. Weird artifacting happening on the right edge of the screen (garbage characters, wrong color, etc.). VGA graphics are too arcane an art for me to figure out in time, so I draw a 1 block thick border around the whole screen and pretend I meant to do it. I updated that bitch every single frame to make sure nothing would ever be drawn on the edges. I got bonus points for making it look nicer.1
I tried to run android studio on ubuntu. My graphics driver isn't compatible with ubuntu and my computer has 4gn ram. The computer has been crying for 2 hours now and it won't stop.5
When the graphics team at the NY Times fails to test whether there are any votes reported before placing a win indicator next to Trump or Clinton3
Wow so my graphics drivers got fucked up in windows 10 and there's no way to boot into safe mode - because microsoft, being the intelligent beings that they are, decided to remove the option to boot into safe mode on bootup. Instead now you can only enter safe mode through the <b><u>GUI!!!</u></b>. unbelievable....14
This is a guide for technology noobies who wants to buy a laptop but have no idea what the SPECS are meaning.
If you like Apple, and love their !sleek design, go to the nearest Apple store and tell them "I want to buy one. Recommendations?"
If you don't like Apple, well, buy anything that fits you. Read more below.
There are 11~15 inches, weight is 850g ~ 2+kg. Very many options. Buy whatever you like.
//Fun part coming
This is the power of the brain.
Pentium is Elementary Schoolers
i3 is Middle Schoolers
i5 is High Schoolers
i7 is University People
Dual-core is 2 people
Quad-core is 4 people
Quiz! What is i5 Dual-core?
A) 2 High Schoolers.
Easy peasy, right?
Now if you have a smartphone and ONLY use Messaging, Phone, and Whatsapp (lol), you can buy Pentium laptops.
If not, I recommend at least i3
Also, there are numbers behind those CPU, like i3-6100
6 means 6th generaton.
If the numbers are bigger, it is the most recent generation.
Think of 6xxx as Stone age people
7xxx as Bronze age people
8xxx as Iron age people
and so one.
This is the size of the desk.
There are 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and so one.
Think of 4GB as small desk to only put one book on it.
8GB as a desk to put a laptop with a keyboard and a mouse.
16GB as a normal sized desk to put some books, laptop, and food.
32GB as a boss sized desk.
And so one.
When you do multitasking, and the desk is too small...
You don't feel comfortable right?
It is good when there are spacious space.
Same with RAM.
But when the desk becomes larger, it gets expensive, so buy the one with the affordable price.
If you watch some YouTube videos in Chrome and do some document words with Office, buy at least 8GB. 16GB is recommended.
You take out the stuffs such as books and laptop from the basket (HDD/SSD), and put in your desk (RAM).
There are two kinds of baskets.
The super big ones, but because it is so big, it is bulky and hard to get stuffs out of the basket. But it is cheap. (HDD)
There are a bit smaller ones but expensive compared to the HDD, it is called SSD. This basket is right next to you, and it is super easy to get stuffs out of this basket. The opening time is faster as well.
SSDs were expensive, but as times go, it gets bigger as well, and cheaper. So most laptops are SSD these days.
There are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1024GB(=1TB), and so one. You can buy what you want. Recommend 256GB for normal use.
Game guy? At least 512GB.
It is the eyesight.
Most computers doesn't have dedicated graphics card, it comes with the CPU. Intel CPUs has CPU + graphics, but the graphics powered by Intel isn't that good.
But NVIDIA graphics cards are great. Recommended for gamers. But it is a bit more expensive.
Buying a laptop is
- Pick the person and the person's clothes (brand and design)
- Pick the space for the person to stay (RAM, SSD/HDD)
- Pick how smart they are (CPU)
- Pick how many (Core)
- Pick the generation (6xxx, 7xxx ....)
- Pick their eyesight (graphics)
And that's pretty much it.
Super easy to buy a laptop right?

Me: *Making a very trivial suggestion, that every person with 1 working eye and 1 functional lobe can come up with*
Corporate managers: *Ponder. Verify competitors didn't implement it yet*. Great idea! let's patent it!4
Gamemaker studio 2's 2019 roadmap just got released.. Still no Linux IDE (FFS) but it only took them how many years to realise that not every developer is a malicious cunt and give us the ability to disable to sandbox file system?!
I swear they add and change stuff that is so trivial instead of focusing on the engines major problems and absent features, eg. Can't use SVG graphics, the need to be exported in flash (SWF) because you know, makes sense?17
Online tag, it was a small game topdown only using programmed graphics (simple circles squares and lines). One could hide underneath trees, and there were powerups, toggleable walls.
Was quite popular for a year or two. Would love to make a remake of it.2
Doing college homework! Computer graphics and multimedia! Yaaaay!!
Well I have to WRITE BY HAND the entire programs ( net about 500 lines, phew ) on PAPER!!
Professor: it will help u get thru exams and is a requirement for university. They don’t permit printed. It is a better habit to write ur code than print it.
Me: goes to my corner and cries listening to sad music 😭😭😭
WHHYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Why do they have to follow prehistoric rules yet!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡5
Apparently "in" and "out" are the new "varying" and "attribute" in OpenGL's shader language...
Even buying a new graphics card can f*ck up your whole day! 😥2
Back when Microsoft was in your face about updating to Windows 10, my friend decided to update his *brand new*<(key word) laptop to Windows 10. Soon after the update he was getting an error message saying that his graphics card is missing. 😐2
i7, 8GB RAM with 2GB nvidia graphics couldn't handle the training of neural net on a google text corpus! -.-"
I'm just watching it train, nothing to do! oh but wait,I can rant! 😃😃5
Fucking bitcoin miners are making graphics cards I have no intention of buying right now more expensive and it makes me mad.
How am I supposed to spec out a machine when the graphics card is $150 more than it usually is?9
Probably the most feature rich, frequently updated oss for computer graphics ever.
The project really captures the spirit of open source, most notably with it's open movie projects.
It does have a pretty steep learning curve, but taking the time to lean it is totally worth it. Not to mention comparable Autodesk software will run you thousands of $$$1
Im excited because I'm getting new pc parts for free.
The parts are:
* AMD 8 core CPU ( not sure which model )
* 16 GB ram
* some good graphics card ( not sure what model )
* cooling ( still not Sure what it will be, the guy was very vague )
It's also coming just before my birthday7
Everyobe keeps saying that Eclipse is shite. Okay, it has been in development for a while, and yes, the graphics for it are a bit dated, but what's so bad about it?
The only reason that I use it, is because I am used to all the shortcuts and its structure. But which IDEs would be better for Java than Eclipse? Please comment recommendations and reasons why your IDE is better.11
While sorting through my downloads folder, I noticed the file size for the Atom setup program: 138MB. For a text editor, that's pretty ridiculous and makes its name quite ironic.
I have similar disdain for Piskel (pixel graphics editor) and Etcher (USB/SD card image writer). Though these are all useful programs, none of these ought to be anywhere near the sizes they are.
Meanwhile, Notepad++ weighs 3MB which is a lot more reasonable.
Recently I discovered p5.js library and I can't believe that I was writing hundred lines before to make a fcking interactive GUI. The best part: it's based on Processing.7
Im having problems with my rig:
Gpu video disappears, sometimes posts sometime doesn't(no signal) while gpu is plugged - integrated graphics dosent work
OH MY FUCKING GOD IT'S BOOTING! Yesterday I spilled liquid on my desktop computer stopping it immediately, and today after letting it dry and rubbing it with some isopropyl alcohol it starts up as if nothing ever happened! 😊
However, I didn't try the graphics card under heavy load yet, maybe it can get unstable as the spillage affected it's power circuit area.
When you make the whole damn game using c++ but you copy one tiny bit of code to use the mouse in graphics mode but they catch you and make you explain it to them and you can't...
This was back in high school when I was younger and dumber.
How old were you guys when you started writing code? What language and what inspired you?
My first programming memories come from writing some QBasic text-based RPG and graphics demos when I was like 12. I remember moving into C/C++ soon after with Borland's C++ compiler and playing around with WinAPI and OpenGL 1.16
You had one job FedEx! ONE JOB!
Guess I'll be waiting a little longer for my new graphics card..... 😒 Wouldn't be so bad if I had another one to use while I waited.
I was just told by the patent review board of the automotive corporate I work for, that virtual camera dynamics are not patentable.
Well, when the only thing you understand is the mechanics of window-wipers and you've never heard of the computer games industry....3
I need a bit of knowledge from some hardware geeks here.
What are the downsides and upsides of rx570 vs rx580 and are they noticeably better than 1050ti?
As I understand, they are relatively similar and much better than gtx1050ti that I own right now. Overall, I just want to have a placeholder which does not cost a kidney. Firstly, because I'm waiting for Navi. Secondly, because I don't even need the POWAH of such beasts as 1080ti or any or the RTX lineup.
I think I may need a second graphics card. Not because of the performance but because I want to use more than 4 displays...
Damn first world problems!15
You know... Something I'm not fond of is the term 'native' (in reference to UI)
Seems to be a pretty slippery slope. From what I gather, it's sort of a pseudo-specific term that means using the platform-provided tools to render a user interface.
So if I override the rendering of a button, grab the graphics context, and do it myself... Am I all of the sudden not native anymore?
If no, what if I just render everything myself on a canvas? It's using 100% the tools the platform provides.
And if I'm not mistaken, the platform provides tools to render your own graphics at an even lower level. If I render all the graphics myself and then just render the finished image onto the screen am I not native? Most would feel inclined to say "yes" but as I understand it...
Nothing isn't "native"!10
When you your computers graphics card keeps crashing the computer.
I get 7 seconds before it crashes. About 5 are used up from typing in password and loading...
The next 2 seconds involve me trying to type in device into start menu... Next I will type in manager.
I am at the anger level where I am saying audibly "I will destroy you" "Arch is next" "Screw you Intel" "You have failed this city"
Real anger rising! 😠😡👈✂🗡🔪🔪🔫🔫🏹⛏🛢🛠🍺🍸🍹☠☡☢📵❌10
Hey devrant!, I'm currently developing a hacker game! herer is a little sneak peak all the graphics are temp will be changed as soon as i get some cash! enjoy!14
Unexpected downside to studying/having an interest in computer graphics - it's not that widespread a field so not many of the books have local editions. Which means I need to spend like $60+ for the good books (Real-time Rendering, Physically Based Rendering, etc.) (and sometimes international shipping too), which is a pretty large amount for a student here. It's sad because local editions of technical books rarely go above $20 (heck, above $15 is rare too).
Still worth it though, those books are easily good enough that the return on investment in knowledge/future prospects will be massive (highly recommend those two if you're into graphics btw, two of the best technical books I have).6
It's fucking sad that when you buy a new laptop with good specs, good nvidia graphics, good sound and install Arch Linux because you hate fucking windows and arch way is the right way. But, then Linux fucks you because there is no proper nvidia support and you have to use wine which doesn't support new games and you run frequently into problems like audio (P.s. maybe in linux 4.10.11). You have to configure microphone everytime while using Skype and see some other guy having same laptop playing happily latest games without much burden.😣😣😥😥😔😔
When will Linux kernel be amazing for gaming??14
Ok so I wrote my VGA text mode driver in rust, how would I do create like graphics and stuff? Because all it does right now is display text.8
After struggling all morning with my laptop, I finally accepted the fact that my 1TB hard drive died. Now I'm on a dilemma: Should I replace the drive and upgrade the RAM, or should I buy a new laptop altogether?
Current laptop is Lenovo G50-45, with AMD APU, 6GB (4+2 on graphics) and said 1TB drive.
Before this misfortune befell me, I was planning to upgrade the RAM to 8+2.
Now I'm at a loss, but my folks are willing to help.
Should I buy a new drive and RAM or should I start looking a new more dev oriented laptop? If the latter, any recommendations?3
As far as mobile games go I am never to interested in or really bother much with some of them. But Honkai Impact 3rd really makes me go woaaah every time I play it. The graphics are absolutely stunning and so is the gameplay. Damned game looks absolutely gorgeous and it makes me think or xbox360 graphics. I do not have a good eye for graphics at all and I am not much of a pc or console gamer. So take that with a grain of salt.4
I once asked our graphics designer to send me a 1x1 transendent pixel as an image. She was just filling that role at the time, not being an actual graphics designer, and the request was rather unusual. It took us a couple of attempts to get what I wanted. I like to optimize memory for the apps, maybe a bit too much.8
Apply a Fortran code patch on a Gould SEL via a Mod 40 TTY terminal, which is essentially an electric typewriter connected to the computer. No graphics display. Once you hit enter on a line, that was it. If you fat-fingered something, you got to start over. We've come a long way, Baby!
OMFG... im in an AP computer science class and we are starting our first big project (this is a java class) and my teacher put us in a group of 3 and we had to figure out a project to do for the next 3 months. So like the teenagers they are they want to make a game... IN JAVA. like wtf java is not made for games. but since im only 1/3 of the group i have to go with the majority. So now I have to figure out how to do graphics in java. I am thinking of using LWJGL for 2d graphics. If anyone knows any other libraries for 2d graphics please let me know. (i don't want to use swing)19
Can you recommend me any 13 inch notebooks. I want to buy a notebook to use as my main workstation.
I mostly do web / Android development but also looking to get more into ML so a good graphics card would be good. I will put linux on it but I am not sure about the distro yet.4
Old graphics card + Oculus Rift DK2 = a bit slow..
New graphics card time, hurray !
Plug it all in..
Ended up with 16.04 and 18.04 ubuntu in dual boot. (see last rant).
Fixed graphics issues on 18.04. The fix envolved setting stuff in grub. Ok.
Now we apparently need 16.04 again and can kich the 18.04.
np. Let me just boot my 16.04
oh look who has graphics issues now!
It boiled down to the grub settings. so Depending on if I need 18.04 or 16.04 I need to fiddle with grub. great.
And now we don't neet 18.04 at all. So I tried to do something not in the last minute once, and it backfired completly. Wasted 5h on this shit this week. Fk this.2
A short description of the only individual to never let me down on a design project.
-On the heavier side
-Dedicated and discreet
-Can sometimes be loud, but it's because they're trying
-6GB of DDR5 VRAM
-Is actually my graphics card2
Styling can be diffucult. You have the most beautiful idea for a masterpiece layout in mind. You begin to work on it and goes from 'very nice' to complete disgust..3
Downloaded VirtualBox and an .iso of Ubuntu 18.04. Now I only need to setup my *entire* development environment so I can see if my engine compiles on anything other than Windows 10.6
I was so close to getting my macOS virtual machine fully working on my Razer Blade... But then I discovered that something with OpenGL/GLX doesn’t work properly, so I can’t use any graphics-heavy applications until I somehow figure out what’s wrong 😞6
All the cool kids in the neighborhood owning a Commodore 64. I was about 7-8 I think. Piracy was big back then, the kids swapped those large floppies and tapes containing hundreds of games through the mail. And all those cool hacktros, trainers, intros and whatnot got me interested in computer graphics and programming.
A former co-worker once had to implement a new subsystem into our ERP system, which runs on .NET.
He then decided to draw the entire UI using the Graphics class.
When i later asked him why he had done it like that, his only answer was: "I wanted to learn how to use graphics"2
A person asked me to look for parts to build a computer for her. She has a tiny budget and wants to play games. I asked what kind of games and she won't tell me more than "games from steam". She won't even give me an example. Also, she doesn't want to buy parts like the psu and housing used, but I already have problems fiting anything better than onboard graphics into this rediculous budget. Why are many people so ignorant?5
So I created a new repo, with fisheye effect for Unity. It's not optimized enough for games, but for simulation purposes I think it's useful.
*Coding on a website*
Wow this image is huge! Should I give it to my Graphics Designer? Nah I can fix this.
2 min later....
Image completely destroyed, fml!3
Going back to my guilty pleasure and working on my Cosmos based operating system, going to take the shit task of building a scripting language and building some custom libraries to allow people to develop applications, system utilities and even custom shells and graphics managers!
Wish me luck!2
When you go to apply to a web design company and they have this exact bootstrap layout http://adventurega.me/bootstrap/
A company that designs websites can't make itself one?!?2
Do we have any Ingress players around here? What do you think about the upcoming Ingress Prime? I am somehow excited, but only because I just decided to upgrade my mobile phone some days ago 😉 Now the graphics boost can come. 😁 And I really hope that Niantic does not fuck up everything when they plan to be more entry level friendly in the future.
I've made so many main menu designs and realised after the game I made wasn't very fun. Therefore having my time wasted on the menu. (and graphics)5
College force us to study the ancient computer graphics method for a whole year. Its damn boring and complicated. Why should we study it..?😐3
I will need a laptop for uni and I thought you guys could give me some tips on good brands/models. I want it to have at least 16GB of RAM, preferably a newer generation of i7 and dedicated NVidia graphics. The bigger the screen is the better. I don't care too much about the battery but I would like to have a few USB type A ports and some HDMI/DP outputs. The maximum price (shipping included) should be around 1000 - 1200€15
Hey guys, I was wondering how are these images created and what are they called? are they SVG graphics?12
Has anyone else noticed these slight imprecicions where the the background peeks out at the bottom sometimes? It is pretty hard to spot, only happens sometimes after scrolling. Or is my display resolution just too high?5
Trying and failing repeatedly to code up a gaussian blur function in delphi for a university computer graphics module assignment.
Over 5 days I re-create the code so many times I lost count. I think I managed to sneak 9 hrs of sleep in total for that week.
Is there anyone who used to Play bit Games like BM, Alladin, Prince of Persia (The Old One), Mario, etc... And still would love to play those versions only, fuck the good graphics, those were awesome games3
Well my good mate is sending me a message asking how to install a graphics card because his won't lock in...
Mind you, this is the guy who watched me build his pc, taught him how to do it, were both in the same TAFE class for information technology and his job is repairing computers and replacing parts... And I still can't find a job in IT -.-
I want an rx580 for my new pc build, but all of them are sold out...
Damn cryptominers, now I'm realy pissed!! 😠
Update on my previous post :
It finally booted I don’t know what the issue was but I reinstalled the graphics drivers on windows and it started running5
I've had enough. I can't handle those bad designs layouts anymore. It is getting on my nerves to receive designs from "professionals" that don't think about responsive layouts, correct alignments, grid, vector shapes, use 6 different font families, and have graphics placed in the most wrong places.
Oh, and let's not forget that such design should be coded in 15h. Sure dear client. Keep dreaming, idiot.
Spending 40% time I'm playing a game waiting for the game to load :/
Should have gotten a laptop with a graphics card... :(6
My Team leader is such a bastard who doesn't do any work and every day he has parcel from some online shop like Amazon or something getting graphics card.raspberry pie etc etc and he literally does nothing. These are a guys who cost company and contribute to downfall of the company. If I would have been a CEO I would have fired such guys. But you know the shortcomings of the big company. And his face like a rotten tomato. No expression and most sadist face. You will ever find
Most interesting bug caused - created printer driver for vietnamese diacritical marks for old matrix printer without VN support by switching to graphics mode and plotting the dots and dashes. Print speed reduced about 200x and printer shook itself to pieces by rotating the cylinder back and forth. Oh well... Ended up buying two new laser printers instead.1
I'm not gonna be greedy and unrealistic 🤫
1) good and long lasting desktop (equivalent or similar to i5 + 32GB RAM + SSD + Graphics Card 4GB + good cooler)
2) 1 ultrawide monitor
3) 1 regular monitor to use portrait mode
// I know that I could just ask great amount of money and ask two more wishes but meh. These are all I wish I could get for my dev career.4
I may have saved my graphics card. For some reason it was acting up, random artifacts showing up, sometimes the graphics drivers would crash and when the picture was back on, everything was glitched (lines everywhere and what not). Sometimes restarting, they would still be there. Eventually it was doing it more and I decided to take the card apart (how i've done before), cleaned it out, which wasn't very dirty, and applied new thermal paste. I put it back together and into the pc, the temp is at 120c, finding out I forgot to plug back in the fan. Seems to be running fine now, no artifacts or driver crashes yet, even after using Unity for a while and watching some of a movie.1
Anyone hear about EMIB from Intel? It seems like it might be a game changer for getting workstation power into Ultrabook form factors. They worked with a team at AMD to engineer it, and even made it sound like they're using it to combine core i processors with AMD graphics.
I ask because there has apparently been news about it since August but I've only just heard about it today.
Android emulator would be the worst one for me. To be honest, I haven't used that many dev tech yet, but this thing gave me nightmares.
The one provided by Android Studio sucked ass horribly, and it didn't let me use my dedicated graphics chip (nVidia 740m). If I used it the emulator either my apps would crash or not start at all. After some googling, I found out that this was a common thing more or less...Using virtual graphics on it was slow, sluggish and rubbish with ~1 second delay with clicks and scrolling and shitty screen changes proccessing.
Using Genymotion was no better so I just stuck with the one provided by Google for the time being.
I have to add that most of those apps were tutorial apps, and only 2 were semi-serious.
Most awesome game ever! It mostly plays by itself and cheats... or maybe it a bug: You (as Autoplay) don't have to beat all the NPCs to advance....
Strangely it feels sort of familiar... O right bc I usually God Mode all games..... But still need to play thru them manually.
Also there's some Chinese left in one of the buttons... they forgot to translate... But maybe that's... Most of time all we care about is the graphics and seeing rank go up....3
Yesterday: Enjoying my VFIO machine running on Ubuntu. Windows nastiness confined to a VM, full performance graphics. Heaven.
Today: Take a system update. Systemd hanging on boot. No console output because systemd helpfully prevents all that from showing. AARGH!1
I'm looking for a shape drawing tool for Linux. I need something that makes it easy to draw a lot of different types of simple shapes, so I can export them to PNGs to open in GIMP and build upon. In GIMP you can only create rectangles and circle shapes, and even trying to do that is a nightmare.
I searched through the sea of Linux photo editing programs and found nothing. On Windows I would use PaintDotNet, but that's not available on Linux and Pinta has the same problem as GIMP when it comes to shapes.
I tried using Libreoffice Draw and Inkscape but Libreoffice Draw was confusing and Inkscape still didn't have very good shape drawing tools. Is there anything else out there?5
Attend a global game jam with my cousin who is kinda lazy and is looking for girls. I find a good Unity developer and make him join our team. He coded and I helped for everything he needed for looking for music, graphics etc at the end he presented it and claimed all the credit
I see all the top devs using cool onboarding graphics, like the one attached for todoist, is there a site or marketplace for these kinda graphics or they have to hire dedicated graphics experts ?3
I currently have a 3+ year old laptop.
Dell Inspiron 15 3521:
OS: Windows 10 Pro
RAM: 8GB (4+4)
Processor: Intel Core i5 3rd Gen
Video/Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 8730M 2GB (and Intel HD 4000)
Hard Disk: 1TB
It's slowly becoming sluggish and has clearly outdated hardware. I want to pursue a Master's degree in CS (Machine Learning oriented).
Should I consider upgrading? Build a PC instead? Suggestions?38
Why Unity, why did you decide to need a graphic card from 3080 to run smoothly?!?! Even in low graphics configuration...3
I am using Dell Insipiron 7567.
I have dual booted my rig with Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 10.
Right from the start itself I couldn't get to the screen of trying or installing with default settings. I had to use 'nomodeset' with 'quiet splash'.
Even after installing I had problems. After some hours of searching I found out that installing Nvidia 390 driver would remove the bug. It did. But my rig heats like shit. And throttles very much. Where as I am not using anything other than
Which i think is very normal?
And looor of battery drain.
I used to get around 3-5 hrs of battery life in Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 but now its like max 2 hrs.
Which is bad I guess.
I switched back to "X.Org X server" driver with "nomodeset" (without nomoseset it will load upto login page. Once i hit enter it gets stuck) it boots up but can't change the level of brighness or can't do anything related to display setting. Temperature has reduced but sacrificing on display settings.
Is there any way to remove this bug?
And additional infos
Graphics in about shows something like "llvmpipe (LMVM 6.0, 256bits)"
Guys do respond please?18
When lector/teacher gives F to majority in computer graphics class because they don't have enough "Freshture" in their drawings...
First post BTW, hello devrant :)4
I need a powerhouse laptop: top CPU, loads of RAM and a decent GPU to run games occasionally (doesn't have to be ultra high graphics). Any brand recommendations? I love building computers, but buying laptops is really overwhelming.17
I have a Surface 3 for home dev stuff. I wanted to get back into C++ for graphic/GPU programming. However it uses an Intel Graphics 5000 chipset so I can't do CUDA and the Intel Media Server can't upgrade the graphics driver because it's a Surface.
What should I do? I would rather not build a system just to play.5
A game lover and anticipator of No Man's Sky. It's the shittiest, most boring, most repetative game i ever played. the graphics sucks. the game assets suck...the game sucks. The apparent lack of variety and stuff you can do will piss you off. This is thr game which could have been one od the best but turned out to be worst.3
Finally got around to some real video encoding work on my new computer but noticing it's not blazing fast...
And more work is still handled by the CPU... But I thought video processing is handled by the GPU, which seems to be barely used at all. I'm using Handbrake but I thought the whole point of dedicated GPU was for intensive graphics and video processing?6
I use Linux on my second HDD and on my Notebook but I have been thinking about switching completely to Linux. The only thing holding me back is gaming... I have a HDD with Windows on it just for gaming. I know about wine but I wonder if I can install my amd graphics card driver easily on Linux.
Does anyone know about some good articles or does anyone have any good tips?10
Waiting 3 days for your graphics card to get trough all training data to see if you wasted your life with bad architecture.13
Can someone suggest me a quick way to create some svg files or convert some basic flat shapes like image of a redcircle or a blue heart into .SVGs?
I don't have any experience in graphics development, so online/offline tools or converstion engines would be also nice.17
An eventful day:
Because of my recent amateur thermopaste application onto a heatpipe that connects a laptop CPU and a discrete GPU and *ingenious* HP ProBook engineering my Radeon graphics have fried yesterday.
On the bright side, got the Nougat update for my Samsung S6, with bright hopes that it will help restore the state of an unresponsive fingerprint scanner... nope, that is still broken.
Summer is near, exams finished, time for some DIY on used and abused tech! :D2
Delays. Delays in payment, delays in scope and spec delivery, delays from the graphics guys, delays from the X guy, the Y guy, this company, that company. No matter what the reason, delays leave that leave the Dev waiting and sitting around despondent and losing interest faster than the second to latest viral video.
I once was sitting in a somewhat boring class on networks and computer architecture towards the end of the term. Nobody was really listening and the lecture was kind of a collection of random bits and pieces related to the subject matter.
So I tried out playing Duke Nukem on my rather weak laptop on DosBox. I was sitting quite in front of the class room, and the profesor could clearly hear my fan working like crazy. Later in his lecture he did a short excourse on cloud gaming, showing us nVidia's graphics card cloud where you could do remote gaming, the graphics being rendered remotely and streamed to your box over the interwebs.
I looked up from my game and said to the professor: "If I had this now, my fan would not be that loud." Even the professor laughed.
Just tried to make my Nvidia graphics card work beside my Intel one on Antergos. Fudged up my whole desktop manager and wasted 8 hours of my life... Yet for some reason I like IT. I'm beginning to think I'm somewhat of a masochist...
Just spent almost an hour trying to figure out why my computer won't display on my tv monitor (because the best smart TV is a PC). I tried everything, unplugging the graphics card and using the motherboard, tried another tv, tried different sockets. Tried another graphics card etc.
Eventually, without notice, after plugging it to a regular PC monitor, it started working. No clue why. But it works now so I'm happy.
I find it hopeless to achieve anything with applications aimed at non-devs, such as PowerPoint. How the hell can it be so difficult to use the same theme in one presentation as in another? If it had been code, I would just have copied the XML, XAML, include, link, script or whatever code in whatever language on whatever platform from the old project and pasted it into my new project. But with "user-friendly" apps I have no control of how anything actually works. I give up, my presentation will be unthemed. Maybe it's for the better anyway, less distracting graphics.5
Spent most of my time studying algorithms, data structures and other theoretical stuffs in college. But tried to do some web development with heavy frontend for course projects and for fun (beautify my cv as well)
Interviewers: wow, you'r experience quite focused on frontend and graphics
Me: (poker face…)2
"Success! One more step to go. Please restart your computer before you start Visual Studio Community 2017."
Why the ... what the flying ... what the fuck did you install that requires a fucking reboot? Did you install the compiler in my fucking graphics driver for accelerated build times? What year is this, and why does Windows want to reboot like a fucking superhero franchise?!
!rant && question
So, I am doing a complete burn and rebuild of a C++ library into a C# library. My question: this thing uses GDI/OpenGL to do graphics things (Mostly rendering lines and shapes over images). Is it worth trying to use WPF for that, or does GDI/OpenGL work in C#?2
Maybe a repost but interesting no? (got into an discussion with a friend, needed evidence)
Fuck you mesa
I installed arch again due to some other mess up (another rant 😂) and this time I was facing problem with sleep.
The system froze every time I tried to wake it up from suspend state.
This is how I wasted past 2 days:
- Wifi device sleep issue, disabling wifi
- Probably sddm issue, let me try lightdm
- Last time I installed gdm, might try that as well
- Had to remove all the bloatware then I suspected plasma
- Checked system logs and found amdgpu error
- Tried disabling graphics using nomodeset, system failed to boot
- glx IP block hung!, it's the graphics driver
- Checked another arch forum, a guy was having a same problem after upgrade
- Downgraded mesa to 18.3.4-1
Worked like a charm though hibernate is still not working4
that feeling when you want to take off a few days of work to REALLY research Perlin noise and displacement map filters.
So going to university in about 1 year, and ive been wondering, if I'm going into computer science or software engineering (my top 2 programs of choice), what laptop specs would u recommend? I'm currently running a computer with 8gb DDR3 RAM and a 5 year old Intel Pentium, integrated graphics, needless to say I think an upgrade would benefit. Thoughts?4
Anyone got Thinkpad t540p with linux (this one got i7, 16Gb ram, 3k monitor, nvidia + intel graphics)?
Any special problems?
Tried to find internet but seems to be normal Thinkpad problems but those are easy to fix. Planning to buy t540p for home cause previous Thinkpad broke.3
What Distribution would you recommend specifically for laptop use. I've jumped around a lot but every distro seems to have some issue with the laptop (sound, stupid switchable graphics, wifi issues, etc).
I always seem to find a distro I like, but Lenovo seems to not like.11
Is it a good idea to switch from learning openGL to learning Vulkan now?
I was learning openGL in the past months and now that Vulkan is out I am thinking about learning that instead. I've heard that it's harder to learn though, so roughly how long do you think it would take to learn it as a openGL novice?
In openGL I have used instanced rendering with different textures, specular maps in the shader all in perspective 3D of course.3
Sorry for posting this, but I would like to know if you think that this notebook would be good for programming. I will put arch linux on it.
Asus UX31 0UA FC344T Laptop (Intel Core i7, 512GB, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics/Win Home 10) Gold
In my opinion it should be pretty good. It has a decent processer, lots of RAM and a SSD . I won't use it for gaming so I don't think that the bad graphics card is a deal breaker.10
Windows machine i5 7th gen with 12Gigs Ram and 4Gigs graphics (2 dedicated + 2 shared) and 1TB HDD+ 256 Gb SSD vs low budget MacMiNi for heavy dev? usage- JDK, Android SDK, node, containers etc.9
I created this game in just 4 hours. Do try it and please comment down if you like it
Re-reading this article today and still amaze me how someone can resume such a vast world of concepts. A must read
I'm pissed at my laptop. Its using the on board graphics instead of the dedicated graphics card. I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. I've tried just disabling the on board graphics in the device manager, but then I can't plugin external monitors. And on top of that when opening a game it doesn't even use the GPU it uses the CPU
Anyone have advice? The onboard is AMD Radeon R7 and the card is an AMD RX 5605
Part 4 of Mathematica fails that I've been saving for awhile.
Very consistently, the first time I try to save a graphic, it works fine. The second time, it changes the focus to a different tab, but works. The third time, it quits, but does save the graphic.
When I have >=10 graphics to save, this is pretty annoying, especially as if something was saved normally and not via the prompt when quitting Mathematica normally, after crashing it is no longer saved.
Struggling to write my Engineering Thesis code. Not because I'm afraid of tech, but because I have no idea what it should do.
I'm testing mobile apps performance, but getting the right idea is pain in the ass. :(
Never been too creative, but always have been over ambitious and lazy.
So the deadline is coming slowly, I have specified my 'tests' (authorization, API connection, heavy calculations, graphics, database handling) and still don't know what my app should do.
And ideas or suggestions what else is to test?
When you work with a client who will only use Fireworks for graphics but you only have one dying old machine with a licensed copy and Adobe won't give you keys even though you bought them years ago (and can prove it!) and you can't buy new keys because they don't sell them and even if we had them we can't download it any more.
WTF Adobe!! It's a dead product! We don't want support or anything. Just give us the feckin' keys and the bloody installer!!4
I understand the desire people have to use an open source driver for their graphics card, but it feels like that's not the only reason people seem averse to using nvidia's closed-source driver on linux. I have used it for years, and never had a problem, and though I have an admittedly specific use scope, I would like to know what it is that people dislike about it. What problems do you have with it?3
My first computer exposure was on a mainframe (CDC Cyber 180). My university in Kerala, India had a collaboration with the Indian defence organisation DRDO. The operating system was something called NOS/VE, though as I remember it could run some Unix version virtually. I had Fortran 77 programs to be developed as part of the course. (finite element methods). As I remember, the machine had built in routines for the same. Screen was a green on dark terminal conected to the thing. No windowing or graphics.
Today kids have more powerful machines at home (or in their pockets). The famous computing power law be praised.
For you graphic dev, Disney has released Clouds and the island from Moana.
guys i need serious help. I am planning to make driving simulator using c# but the problem is I don't know which API, library will be necessary for making driving simulator environment graphics. Should I use openGL or something else?2
hey , does anybody have some collection or something of the various graphics on devrant, like the logo, or alice's amazing vector arts ? i was creating a wallpaper for me, i wanted to include that .6
Anybody out there know best library in Python for visualising a robot’s path graphically given its X and Y coordinates? Turtle is way too boring... please help...2
Cooperation with a graphic company is like a never-ending story. Return them styles to fix something, they fix the thing, but also break few other things. 😒
Now they fixed colors of links in main menu, but also made the text color in a context menu same as its background... 😫
frontend devel asks wher's our graphics designer. he get sick as fuck. and manager noticed some bullshit we where talking about that...
I am team leader and python backend devel. Manager asked me: hey, how's graphic for backend going? Didn't you asks where's graphic designer? I hope you handle that...
😁😁 fuuuuu 😁2
Can any of you recommend on good universities (mainly in EU) with strong computer vision/visual computing/computer graphics labs?
For M.Sc studies.2
Both laptops have the same price.
which one you think is better ?
(already used) MacBook Air 250GB SSD Nvidia Graphics 4GB RAM Intel Core i5 Processor
(brand new) HP Pavilon 1TB HDD Nvidia Graphics 12GB RAM Intel Core i7 Processor.30
It may not be the place to do so but I need your opinions.
I already said that but I would like to switch from Windows to Linux but I don't know which distrib to choose. For long time I was up to some Debian/Ubuntu but now I feel like going Arch ou Deepin.
Have you guys tried some of those? Do you liked it?
And please, I'm not trying to start world war three here! Have a little "courtoisie" and please be gentle with me I'm still a noob in all this (already tried Ubuntu tho' and didn't liked the Gnome graphics).7
Have a problem with my custom made desktop.
On games, after 5, 10, 20 minutes the PC freezes and I have to restart.
It's not the graphics card, but I think the CPU is overheating.
It's a new i5 8gen Hexacore, shouldn't be overheating.
Any tools I could use to diagnose what is happening?
I'm looking for a college right now and I found one that has the right major for me (Game Dev), but in their recruitment paper I found this under "subject": Computer Graphics in .NET. Am I missing something or is .Net a good platform for making computer graphics?
Also if anyone knows of any college that teaches Game Dev in Poland, please let me know. (Jak na razie znalazłem tylko w Nysie, ale jeszcze szukam)2
Arch switch update: after a day I still haven't gotten past sddm. KDE won't start on either X or Wayland with no logs in sight. Everything worked in VB.1
This conversation happened yesterday between me and a client:
"I need drivers for my Hackintosh build, macOS doesn't find and install the graphics card and the NIC"
I laughed at first, then i asked him his configuration..
"I have a 6700K and an MSI M3 H170"
Okay, things are getting worse here...
"So do you know the difference between H170 and Z170?"
"Yes, I have bought an H170 one because i do not overclock"
"Then, tell me why the f*ck you have bought a K processor if you do not f*cking overclock..."
"Because is more powerful"
F*ck no, he didn't said that...
Graphics devs, I have one hour a day i can spare for learning opengl and the math it needs to be understood. Is it possible or should i look for another hobby that is doable in that amount of time.1
I found my old ppt for my senior year project (A hackerrank or leetcode clone).
My love for minimalistic graphics started back then.
I am planning to get either a new graphic card first or new CPU, RAM and Mainboard.
I need advice on what hardware I should upgrade first in my old pc, as I am not sure whether my CPU would be a bottle neck to a new graphics card.
CPU: AMD FX 6200 (3,8GHz) 6 cores
RAM: 8Gb DDR3-Ram (1600MHz)
Graphics: Geforce 780 gtx
Mainboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200
Graphics: Asus rog strix rtx 2070 OC
Mainboard: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming
I use my Desktop mainly for gaming and some programming in machine learning, but for the latter I can still use my Company notebook which has enough resources.
So I‘d like to hear some opions on what to upgrade first (graphic card or rest) of someone who is more knowledgable in terms of hardware than me :)2
What will you recommend to me ( for my IT studies where I code in C and Ada ) between an ultrabook with a VM Linux to use the terminal (compile/use graphics libraries) and a Macbook Pro?
(I'd like to keep Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and other app only available on windows and mac)4
My graphics card was almost broken and crashed my whole pc multiple times a day. So i learned to save my work every 2 minutes. Because i lost progress from a whole hour fixing a bug -.- . But now it cant happen anymore :)
because the card is completely broken. :(
Looking to play around with Xamarin - probably a 2d game - wondering what graphics library to start on. I have done some projects before with jmonkey (open GL for java).
Cocosharp looks to be unmaintained. Monosharp has some advocates at my workplace. Or there is a port of Google's skia. Any thoughts?2
- Android Games! One idea I have is similar to COD Black Ops Zombie mode for mobile in multiplayer mode. I've already completed some Unity tutorials and pretty much learnt how to build games. Never got down to building one though :(
- Real time graphics rendering and optimization. Think Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Tesselations.
Trying to run AA games on a dual core Core2Duo without a graphics card is so fun. We try and try till we succeed right? Well trying is probably going to make my PC go up in flames😂😂3
Hello Devs, Please Suggest Me A Good Laptop.
Specs I Probably Need:
256 or 512 SSD
i7 6th gen
8 or 16 GB DDR4 RAM
Dedicated Graphics or Touch Screen(Ultrabook or something)
Really Confused between Yoga 910 and Lenovo Y700. Or what will be the best device(Portable and Powerful) for us?6
Ok so I got a few PC games, the graphics are stunning but I want cheats...
I see there are lots of trainer apps and mods and also Cheat Engine but the exes look sketchy, not sure what a good source would be. And Cheat Engine is detected as a virus.
I haven't played PC games in many years, this being one of the reasons (other one being hardware).
So what do you do these days? Yeah I probably shouldn't be playing games but but... The graphics look so good (Ultra setting) and still runs smoothly without overheating....16
//not a rant
In Semptember I will be attending information technology at university, and I was wondering what kind of laptop should I buy:
optimal screen size? (13.3 or 15.6)
ram? (for VMs)
dedicated graphics? (or should I just stick to integrated)
I will be mainly coding, running VMs and school stuff(maybe some casual game like League or Minrcraft), so I was wondering if you guys could help me out with the decision19
Is there a web browser for Linux that supports hw accelerated video decode?
There are so many bug reports for this, but all seem to be "won't fix"/ api is unstable or some other problem
I want to watch youtube without it destroying my battery.
(I know I can load the stream into a video player like VLC and watch it there, but that is not very practical...)2
I have to choose between a couple of optional classes in my course. Although I'm more into the filmography side, I love coding.. now We have a. Umber of optional subjects, and we have to choose two. I have chosen Motion Graphics as one, now I want to know whether I should take Java as a second class.
is it something I can learn on my own like I learnt PHP, JS, Swift? Or is it something that will really require a class?
If it's something I can do on my own, I can consider taking another class related to cinema.3
Is there a battery life extender? The Razer Core has an extra graphics card but is there something that uses thunderbolt and supplies an extra battery?1
I'm currently on elementary.
I have two monitors, one plugged to my Rx 560 and GPU and the other to onboard graphics.
Despite this my main monitor is rendered on the Intel inbuilt GPU and I have stuttery gui on my primary monitor.
(My second one is an old monitor and I can't find VGA to dvi converters, on Windows it just works so I haven't had an issue)
Please help me guys !1
Working in the phrase "Tighten up the graphics on level three" into as many serious meetings as possible.
Need some help here!!
I'm learning machine learning, so planning to buy Asus R510JX-DM230T. Are the below specs enough to practice TensorFlow ?? Specs : 2.6GHz Core i7 4720HQ processor
8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive
15.6-inch FHD Anti-Glare Display, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M Graphics14
Playing Day of Defeat on a pre built Windows computer with built in graphics that my dad got at a garage sale. I'd joyously play at medium settings 60fps all over again. Meeeeeeemories
Anybody fluent in Adobe Illustrator, with 30 minutes of spare time feeling unlikely generous today?
I need a tiny, tiny, tiny and simple shape/logo to be done, but my credit card is locked until next month due to previously put (by me) limit.
I can only pay in special thanks on the projects (open source) page.
In the near future i'd like to switch to Linux on my primary laptop (HP EliteBook 8570w) - my uni requires it for the 2nd semester.
I've been thinking about Manjaro, or something else based on Arch Linux... The problem is - I've heard about how problematic is the installation of nVidia Graphics drivers. In my laptop I have the basic Intel HD Graphics with the 2nd Gen Intel Core i7, and an nVidia Quadro K2000 card.
My question is: will I it be really problematic?1
