Thank you ffmpeg

    Fuck yeah it does. We use it at work and I love how easy it is to use.

    It's not the Swiss army knife it claims to be ... It's the Swiss army knife with swiss army knifes inside, each containing more Swiss army knifes.

    Long live ffmpeg!

    Praise ffmpeg

    As in automating it on web server? Didn’t you have to install the exe?
  • 2
    @devTea what the fuck is an exe
  • 2
    @ganjaman install the ffmpeg app

    @devTea you can have something like say, nginx with extensions for executing scripts, you can also set up runners/executors for CI to run ffmpeg scripts. Heck, you can have scheduled services or entries in crontab to run scripts that do stuff with ffmpeg... like convert all mp4 files in an ftp directory to webm, or combine all the videos into one continuous one.

    There's tons of possibilities.

    @devTea also, you meant https://ffmpeg.org/

    Not some weird GUI app?

    @theKarlisK yeah I tried to find how to generate image thumbnail for uploaded video once and I can do it with ffmpeg installed but I don’t want a software installation dependencies on server, so I found another way to donit

    @devTea I think I remember that topic ... but yeah, it's another external dependency if you look at it that way, if you need image manipulation it may be simpler to use Imagick module for PHP.

    @theKarlisK I’m using c# and decided to run powershell with windows api instead

    @devTea as long as it gets the job done without involving NodeJS and a black hole of NodeJS modules.
