devTea240885yPlease explain:
+ how managers think using vdi is productive because it can run everywhere over the internet
+ how tech lead thinks every transaction on database must go through stored procedure is good practice
+ how programmers here think it’s okay to ignore HTTP status code and just send a message “success” or “error”
+ why people are stupid
Cheers,
devTea -
@M1sf3t see I wanted to point that out but I figured I already seem like a shallow and immature asshole, so I didn't wanna push it over the edge lmao
-
vane112805yI will give you example.
Place yourself in the hospital as a surgeon.
Now instead of making surgery by yourself cause you practiced it for last ten years take instructions from some person who got there by accident right after he finished his MBA.
He’s telling you to remove a brain cause it’s taking to much resources, nobody knows what is it for and we can charge twice as much for this surgery.
You protest and he tells your stupid and don’t know anything about your job, anybody can do such simple tasks and many people are waiting to take your position.
How do you feel now ?
I assume it’s best day of your life. -
vane112805yYou can say above example is stupid but how about a thousand years ago when you were a doctor and medicine was just 30 years old ?
-
Some bosses get there by accident and know nothing. Others don't.
Following change processes and governance is critical. Junior devs don't get that apparently. External auditors won't go away because it's 'stupid' or 'a waste of time'. -
Users ARE stupid!! All!! Even us. I never read an Ikea manual before having to check why it doesn't "compile"!! And I have rtfm t-shirt!!!
Management can be there by entropy, and then he is stupid. A lot of them think that "they know" better than anyone else because the used to do that 15 years ago... Stupid!!!!
Everything must be maintained. And there a cost to every maintenance action. So a lot of company don't. So the useful process is now useless.
That being said, I want to kill more "programmers" than "managers"/users. -
skqr705y@devTea I take it you haven't been a tech lead, manager, or person yet?
Are you referring to your tech leads and managers? All of them?
Let's put it this way; devs are in charge of themselves in side projects, right?
Are side projects usually cost effective? How many of the million side projects out there would you say have been managed or lead properly? Beyond that, are they making or would they have made money?
Kind of a rarity. And, yeah, so is a well lead and we'll managed team, but then again, so is a good dev. -
devTea240885y@skqr if team lead doesn’t check whether or not the team or using wood or rock for the building foundation, then what the fuck is his job? Their job is to make sure everything in requirement is fulfilled and built well with small bugs as possible
It’s like saying you accepted a PR just because it delivers the feature without tests, code quality etc
I love devrant so much for how I feel it's the one social network in which I feel part of the community, and I hate it for letting me realize how alive all of the stereotypical behaviours the IT crowd is usually shunned for are amongst us.
Users and managers aren't stupid, processes in a company are usually there for a reason, and if your boss is really that much of a dimwit, then why the hell are you even there?
This has to be one of the most recession proof professions out there. Change jobs. Stop blaming everybody else for your shortcomings, damn it.
But, yeah, much love to all of you making us look good and being humble about it.
