Can someone please explain why android studio (including emulator, but still) plus a couple of firefox tabs and windows 10 occupy the ~8.7GB of RAM that are 74% of the 12 gigs I have? Especially since summing up the ram in use by applications according to task manager makes it look like only 3gb. Is Android Studio using some dark magic to conceal its RAM usage? What the hell!

    Well memory used by virtual machines doesn't show up in task manager. Maybe your android vm is using the remaining?

    And on Linux Android studio uses max 2Gb of RAM.

    Vm usage isn't displayed in the task manager, and it's just that eating up more ram.

    Taskmanager never shows real memory usage. Use 3rd party tool like Process Hacker
