I hate Microsoft for not making Office run on Linux. It's the only reason I have to use a fucking MacBook instead of a Linux laptop. No Microsoft, I'm not going to run windows on my laptop. The system ist too much different to my production systems.
I hate Microsoft for not thinking about the consequences of not providing a Linux version. I have to use the fucking Apple Finder in my daily job. I have to buy a thousand dongles to connect anything to my laptop.

Desktop Linux needs to be slightly more relevant for a company like Microsoft to care. They clearly want to address other OS markets if they're big enough (as evidenced by the MacOS Office suite).

Plus, supporting software on Linux is a nightmare for a big company since there are so many flavours and people expect things to "just work".

(That said big players have brought software like DaVinci Resolve to Linux so eh).

All clients use Microsoft Office and using Libreoffice will break many documents.

Online Office 365 requires to upload documents to Microsoft servers, which is forbidden in some client contracts.

@theKarlisK or, you know... Why should they? Just bcz a bunch of whieners want them to?

Ms is concerned about sales. Macbooks are quite popular in the States, whixh means a considerable market share. Apple is monetising their products, getting a better buck is their interest. Just like microsoft's. Why not do a qui pro quo? That's a win-win for both the companies.

Now how would that be a win-win for ms-linux? What would ms gain? Nothing. They'd only invest time and money to satisfy a few frowny, needy penguins and would get nothing in return.

Tbh I see office365 as a compromise. Ms loses the least and all the consumers get something to use.

@netikras I completely forgot about Symbian until now. How did that happen... Who wanted it to disappear from my memory?!

@Jilano I wonder how many people here have not seen/used Symbian and are wondering wtf we're talking about...

@netikras and those BSDs are not supported either!

@netikras Ha! Well, they can always look for it on the Internet! Speaking of, I tried to find one of my old phone to see it was running Symbian, but apparently not.

It was this "beast" for the curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
