Do you ever think about the fact that computer science is based on binary operations not because it is.easier or because we are "so smart" but because our still primitive knowledge of physics did not allow us to find a material and build reliable gates with multiple states and so we are.stuck with the "open-close" thingy?

Is it me or does it look like we are not that smart?

We had tri-state computers in the early days. Also analogue computer still do exist - while being exotic - for some corner cases and special computations. Earlier analogue ones suffered from the need of manual wiring to program, but there has been some development in the last years.

@sbiewald sure. I just find it amusing sometimes when people think of it as it some kind of genius idea 😃

Nay, I think the CS is still a very young field of tech and starting off slowly and primitively is a perfect way. By no means do I consider us dumb. In fact I'm surprised how vastly we've managed to adopt this tech, how much useful we've made it.

@ionutmihairex well it is a genius idea, isn't it? :) think from _what it can do_ perspective, not from _how primitive it is_

Its so primitive that all the other animals didn't even try copying our dumb idea.
