Next thing you know an MCS will get you $22 an hour! Lmfao
  • 5
Jfc I make $10/hr doing a literal no skill job
  • 2
Lol I made $20 as a college freshman intern. In one of the lowest paying cities in the US. Run away.
  • 3
Hey bro work for me, I'll pay you 1 million...................... EXPOSURE BUCKS
  • 2
@irene kinda depends on where you live.
I don't have that much more as a senior. I do live in a country with state healthcare, I get a company car, insurance, pension saving plan and a few other benifits.
  • 1
    @HisAxelency state healthcare?? Marry me...
  • 2
  • 2
@broseph ... no. But if you're a dev and you wouldn't mind living in a country with good beer and a very fucked up government:

@irene ‘murica is too sexually repressed to be fucked. It’ll never put out voluntarily. We don’t want Jesus to cry or anything...

Where do i sign for it? My hourlr rate is 8 dollars, although not in is. I d welcome a remote work with same fee.
  • 0
@aviophile If was remote, I probably would’ve taken it. But it was an hour and a half commute both ways. I’d basically be working for gas money. And I’ve got student debt I have to take care of. 😩
  • 1
I'm a casino pit manager and I make $24 an hour. That's crazy.
  • 1
I make US$9 an hour (look at my country in my profile).
  • 1
@broseph 'murica what exactly? Get yourself a non shit job in a non shit company and you will be well taken care of with perfectly viable retirement options as well as healthcare........ its difficult I know, but achievable without living in a country with shit pay
  • 2
@AleCx04 not really though. I have Aetna insurance and make 80k before taxes, which is pretty great for my city. As a type 1 diabetic, I pay roughly 16k a year out of pocket, just for my insulin and pump supplies (mind you, that's the bare minimal for me to survive, not including other health issues or dental). I'm not struggling by any means but the whole "work hard and you'll make" attitude is bullshit. I have several friends who have had to ration their insulin in the past few years, even though they have a job in software and freelance on the side, one of which works in the Bay area and makes a decent living relative to his Bay peers.

Also, Canada is by no means a shit country...or many other countries that offer some government healthcare. I love the US, but life's not that simple.
  • 2
@ChaoticGoods my two coworkers are diabetic. Both's needs are completely covered by our institutions's insurance and both motherfuckers are living it just as large as I am in terms of money.

I feel for that situation. But just saying 'murica and acting like if it is the country's fault is the real bs specially considered that for the ammount of shit that I do at work I wouldn't even make one quarter of it in many other places around the world.

And I never said Canada is a shit country. Why mention that?
  • 0
I'm not calling you a lier, but two years ago I was still self-employed, and there was literally not a single insurance company that would cover all my medical expenses. To be clear, do you mean the PREMIUMS are 100% covered or the actual expenses?

It is a country issue. Why is insulin 5-15 times more expensive here than it is in Canada? For the same brand (might be a different label but it's the same product).

I brought up Canada because you implied you can only get free healthcare in "shithole" countries. But that's not true, by any means.
  • 1
@AleCx04 seriously though I'm not implying they aren't, but the last time I had to buy insurance for myself, there was not a single insurance company that covered 100% of my supplies. And it's definitely still ultra rare, even as great as we have it in the software industry.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods they do have copay, but it is a pretty meager ammount compared to what people pay elsewhere.

And I never said shithole countries. I said countries with shit pay. It can be a completely decent country to live in in which they pay their developers shit.
  • 0
@AleCx04 again, my copay is basically nothing. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the amount they do not cover, or only cover part of. Copay and premiums are not what cost me 16k a year.

And again, you're implying that countries like Canada give shitty pay. I'm using Canada as an example because I'm most familiar with it. I know personally I could make pretty much the same amount in Canada, plus have free healthcare. But I do like it here, and I have family here, and I'm fortunate to make enough to live off of.
  • 2
@AleCx04 so you’ve got a sweet situation. I’m sincerely happy for you. Unless every other person in ‘murica is an ungrateful whine-ass EXCEPT you, you’re clearly the exception. So don’t start that poor-America-always-gets-picked-on bullshit here. We have the potential to be ACTUALLY BE everything you delude yourself into thinking we are and we are farTheFuck from it. And with short-sighted attitudes like yours, we’ll never BE that great. So fuck off with that weak-ass horse piss.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods actually the one reading and implying stuff is you my dude. I am out. I dislike explaining shit that i didn't say or imply
  • 0
@AleCx04 I'm not though... Canada has good paying jobs. And is a pretty decent country. And it's not just Canada. Just because America has a bunch of good shit going for us, it doesn't mean we're head over hills better than everybody else, or that we don't have some serious problems. I genuinely hope your company's insurance covers all their supplies, but unless something major has changed, they probably don't (especially if they're on any pump that isn't Medtronic). And your company is quite literally 1 in a million.
  • 1
@broseph to be fair I'm also in Texas. Though I didn't grow up here lol.
  • 1
@ChaoticGoods then I apologize for the negative stereotype. That’s my bad. That was lame and ignorant of me. It’s been removed from my reply.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods cool story man. I dig how you make arguments for shit that people never said.
  • 1
@AleCx04 you did though.... You said you couldn't make nearly as much and you don't need to go to countries that pay shit...
  • 0
@AleCx04 you also said that he can live well here, when that's simply not the case for everyone.
  • -1
@ChaoticGoods no i didn't but 🤷‍♂️ kudos on the paranoia. Is English your first language? Nvm I don't give a shit. Have a good night.
  • 0
@AleCx04 lol okay. I guess you typed all that out without reading any of it.
  • -1
@broseph is everything ok at home? I sure hope so bud :( that was a lot of bitching and anger. I hope your situation gets better 😘
  • 1
@AleCx04 Oh it’s all good. You sure invalidated my point by feigning sympathy. Don’t I feel stupid lol. I’ll never point out some asshole’s logical fallacies again. I’ve learned my lesson. 😂😂
  • 0
@broseph no lesson to be learned here man. Hard to find myself being the asshole when it was literally you the one that told me to fuck off just above. I sure do appreciate the weird mentality of some people here. In what other way should I try and invalidate your point? I already had one idiot somehow thinking that I was talking shit about Canada(of all fucking places) just because I don't agree with the 'murica reasoning that y'all have and mentioned shit pay. No one likes to concede in arguments here.
  • 1
    @AleCx04
'Countries with shit pay' ... like I said, depends on where you live. 18$/hour (net pay) might be 'shit pay' in the USA, down here it isn't.
It all depends on what the country you live in provides for you (which usually means more taxes but that isn't a bad thing), what the living costs in that country are (housing, electricity, water, ...) and what other benifits you get.

I know the US prides itself in having lower taxes and higher pay, but you guys do have to provide almost everything for yourself, and it all comes from the 'good pay' you get.

Not even talking about the costs state-funded services save you because stuff is bought in bulk for a large number of people, and companies tend to give serious discounts in those cases (eg. insulin is something you can get here for a few euro's).
  • 0
@AleCx04 idiot? You seriously need to go read your own comments. You didn't address any of my counter points, instead you just keep ignoring my points and then acting so offended that someone would dare call you out on your bullshit.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods it is hard to address points for shit that I didn't say. You took the "shit pay" statement like some sort of over generalization of me thinking that to me if a country pays poorly then they must be shit and you kept using Canada as an example of something that I literally never said. I was not to counter you from believing shit that I didn't say. People here expect answers to imaginary arguments. I am from Mexico dude, born there and raised in the U.S. I have lived in Mexico though, and I liked it. Y'know how much they pay devs there? I would not be able to live the way I do. Do I consider their salary shit pay? Yes, because it is low compared to what it would be in other places in which such skills are more appreciated. Do I think the country is shit? Fuck no, where the fuck would you get that from such example? That is why I am not humoring your "points" we were talking about insurance coverage, not this country shit.
  • 0
@AleCx04 you keep focusing on single point. You also said you can't make as much doing what you do, in other countries. Which is why I kept bringing up Canada. Or the fact that's there's literally no way your co-workers have 100% of their supplies covered. Or why insulin cost so much here versus other countries. Your whole argument was that if you work hard you can make a good living here, and that's not universally true. At all. Just because you PERSONALLY are able to make a good living here, doesn't mean everyone else is just lazy. It's bullshit like this that keeps us as a country from getting better.
  • 0
@AleCx04 and you started this whole argument saying it's not a country thing. You started the country comparisons, not me. You need to get out more.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods You read far too much into my words man. You really did. I did mention...waaay from my first posts that getting this is difficult but certainly achievable, which I think it is. I started way from the fucking bottom in terms of salary and I fucking know that in Mexico getting to where I am would have been an experiment in comic futility, so I apologize if I don't adopt the mentality that it is not "universally true". And I did mention about the insurance, mentioned copay and then whe you corrected me to supplies I was to answer, i was just so confused as to why bring Canada(which you already explained), i still don't agree with the example given but ok. And we both would not be able to do what we do in a lot of countries. Yes I am aware that it is not necessarily the case in some places, dear lord that doesn't mean that I am putting them in an umbrella shit statement.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods broseph started them. I talked to him, not you, you jumped the gun on shit for when i wasn't even talking yo you man. Check yourself on that.
  • 0
@ChaoticGoods but look. I am aware shit might have been open to misinterpretation and to come out as insensitive or insulting. Wasn't my intention and of course that I know it ain't the same for everyone else. All I am saying is that is achievable, i do want better for all, i really do.

We can be cool right? Sorry for making it seem like something overly negative. We cool?
  • 0
@AleCx04 you said "it's not a country thing". It is. And "a lot of countries" do offer similar paying jobs, a fair amount of which also offer universal healthcare. You jumped on him for making this general statement but then did the exact same thing. It i don't really care how you feel, it isn't universally true. Plenty of research on both sides of the political spectrum demonstrate how ridiculous that statement is. You make these claims and then got upset when I provide examples to the contrary. Yes I messed up and read your "shit pay" as "shit country". But that doesn't dismiss all the other points I've made. All I was refuting was the idea that if you work hard, you'll make it. And your claim that the state of healthcare in our country isn't, in large part, do to our political climate.
  • 1
@ChaoticGoods read the other thing man. Lets be cool, you don't strike me as a bad dude. And i assure you I ain't one.
  • 1
@AleCx04 yeah man. We live in Texas, if I got upset Everytime someone disagreed with me, I'd have no time to do anything else lol. Again, I'll admit I read it as shit country not shit pay and jumped to conclusions. All I'm saying is hardwork doesn't guarantee much, in any country. And that there's plenty of other countries you could turn to if you want/need.
  • 1
@ChaoticGoods i know man. Not only that, but you live legit like 2 hours away from me. Sorry for calling you an idiot and being generally uncool. Next time I go to the cheesecake factory in las canteras over there I'll get you a cheesecake, peace offerings man :P
