Baxos7948yIt seems like a really good and solid product - almost like Apple notebooks but actually usable.. Too bad that the price is the same or higher
-
@Baxos are you saying the problem is that something that works is more expensive than something that doesn't?
-
I also like my Surface Pro. It's not perfect, but a nice piece of hardware. Although nowadays I prefer it with elementaryOS in dual boot.
-
@azuredivay what I love about the surface is the fact that consumers are given a clear example of how Windows runs on hardware selected for the job... For far too long, consumers could buy a "Windows machine" and not really have a good idea of the issues they might face... Here, there is a solid benchmark for what you should expect (now if they'd only have such a benchmark for the PC...)
-
@azuredivay yes, but the question remains as to what the dev team was using... What you're saying about Lumia is exactly the problem, well-informed consumers can spend a lot of money on hardware but in the end still not be running what the devs used... Here, if Windows fails on the surface there's absolutely no excuse... It's the accountability that I like
-
Baxos7948y@ReturnVoid actually, not at all.. I think the price is right, just not affordable for students that's it
-
@azuredivay Windows 10 is where I drew the line... They pushed so hard to cram that down everyone's throats at a point when I *knew* the platform wasn't stable yet (because newer versions of anything, let alone Windows, are rarely stable) and so I bailed on them completely.
No dev *likes* supporting old platforms, but when the support window for 8.1 isn't scheduled to run out until 2023, spamming users (on their fucking working environments!) to upgrade so early was a major fucking turn-off
Look, I've given Microsoft and Windows a lot of shit, but I just have to be fair and say the one piece of hardware that I absolutely covet is the Surface Pro... If that is the direction Microsoft is heading in the coming years I'll have a lot more respect for them...
