Ok so I just changed my keyboard layout to neo2 because qwertz can suck my balls. Looking quite good so far. I've been writing some smaller texts and it looks like you can get used to it quite fast (i also changed because I wanted to learn writing with 10 fingers anyways. Not that I've been writing slowly before, but why not).

The bad thing: all shortcuts (vim etc) feel strange because I have to betray my muscle memory now. So I thought I might also just switch to emacs now. Have to learn it from the beginning but it might be worth it.

Did anyone of you have any experience with neo (german) and what editors did you use?

    Did Germans change qwerty to qwertz just so that it sounds more aggressive and consequently is easier to pronounce to them 🤔

    @electrineer Yes.

    But also because they don't use the exact same letters as often. (Same goes for French.)

    What is neo2?

    @neriald Sounds like a matrix character to me

    @neriald some weird layout optimized for the german language.

    It has the most commonly used german characters on the home row, and using shift lock (mod 2 as they call it) gives you all special characters for programming in logical blocks. In qwertz they are all over the place and it's horrendous to do the yoga to type them. They have a total of 6 layers for characters (depending on which mod keys you hold down): small, CAPITAL, programming)}<>, a numblock, and two layers of weard special characters I wont use anyways.

    @electrineer I guess. What I find way worse it that the äöü and shit are next to enter but all programming related keys (+{>#â„… are hidden as fuck and you have to do weird yoga to reach them
