Rohr7305y@FahadAlt yes. True. I only was transiting between two planes, so I was covered by the airport wifi, but these charges are insane ... If you are not on a prepaid plan and accidentally left on roaming ... The next bill will be tought.
Why do they still Charge amounts like this ... This is just not what it should be in 2019. People are gonna use free WiFi anyway, so why do they want to rip of that poor guy that left on his roaming by accident. -
endor56705yCheck your bill, you might also get a massive (30$?) charge just for the fact that you've "activated your mobile device overseas".
Or at least, I've heard about them doing something like that: so not only are your costs insanely high, but you also get a massive extra charge every day (!!) just for having your phone not on airplane mode outside your country.
And yes, that's exactly why they do it: a lot of people don't know how this stuff works, so they get caught out or forget about it and get massively screwed over.
Tack a massive fee on top of it, and you've got a great source of income. -
ddephor44475yThis is ridiculously high, but other countries are not much better. Just been to the US and carelessly made a call home.
More than 30€ for a 20 minute call.
That's nearly as much as the whole mobile contract including flatrate for all national calls, text and 10GB data plan per month.
Next time I use the phone option of some messenger. -
$51.20/MB? I was quoted a fraction of that when I went to Greenland, which is a bit more remote. Hell, you can get satellite for less than that, I just googled it.
-
Rohr7305y@d4ng3r0u5 to put that in context: listening to ONE song on Spotify, could cost you ~150$.

I have one like that.
Going to US.
Crossing border.
SMS : “Hello, welcome to United States. While you are here, these are the prices <bla vla>”
30 seconds later :
SMS : “Hello ! You used your phone (by receiving their SMS!) so we went ahead and activate 10$/day option for you”
ME : “WTF ?”
Called them on my return, didn’t pay their shit. -
galena71165yI dont know about you guys but my phone automatically disconnects mobile data if roaming applies.
-
sirjofri5175y@ddephor ok, what contract do you have? What country? I'm looking for good mobile contracts
-
ddephor44475y@sirjofri Vodafone Red Business, Germany. But it's a company contract. If I could choose, I would never ever use Vodafone, such a crappy company. Coverage is bad, their website is unusable and even the invoices show wrong data for years.
-
sirjofri5175y@ddephor vodafone kabel deutschland is great though... DSL service is crappy, yes, and I haven't heard good things about mobile

This is simply ridiculous
"Welcome to The United Arab Emirates. Warning - you have activated your mobile device overseas. Significantly higher charges may apply. While you're here, it will cost up to $20.89/min + 40c connection fee to make calls, $5/min to receive calls, $3.50 to send a TXT and data is charged $51.20/MB. It's free to receive a TXT. (...)."
Not Shure if other carriers are better, but with roaming on this rant would have, probably cost like 10$ :D
