I fucking hate going into work after being sick feeling 80%. It sucks because i dont want to use my sick days when I'm doing fine, but i feel so off my game and out of my element.

    The before-after sick are both horrible

    A fixed amount of sick days is sick

    @electrineer this. Nice third world country concept

    @Kimmax are there places that offer unlimited sick days???
  • 0
    @electrineer you have unlimited paid sick days?

    @arcsector in many countries there's full pay only for some initial period in case of longer leaves, but the amount of short leaves is not limited. Working sick benefits nobody.

    @electrineer and you're hourly?

    @arcsector It doesn't matter.

    @beegC0de in Germany we call in sick and get written up by a doctor. You'll be paid as usual, however health insurance will cover the costs for the company. If you're ill for more than 6 months _continously_, you'll get about 60% of your initial pay for some time and it gets more complicated after that, depending on your situation.
    Usually we get some extended insurance that will cover the missing 40% of your pay, or pay your usual pay on top of what the health insurance pays for as long as you aren't able to work (and usually some migration time after you start working again) and with that you're pretty much safe from being financially ruined by some illness here. Keep in mind that the majority is insured by the state health insurance already, that provides all of this, minus the extra insurance, but you'll probably get around without it.
    So no defined amount of sick days. If you're ill you come back when you're better and that's it. A doctor will define the time frame for you, if you're not better by the end of that you show up at the doctors office again and he will decide how that time frame will be extended and your illness be dealt with etc. Your vacation days are not affected by this in any way.

    Also I have no idea how to use sick/ill probably 😂

    @Kimmax Some corrections:
    The employer keeps paying for 6 weeks in a year for the same diagnosis (which of course your employer doesn't get to know). Afterwards the insurance will pay you and you will get about 70% of your net salary. You pay additional tax on this (with your tax declaration), because it is not taxed yet. This can go on for 72 weeks in 2 or 3 years (not sure right now).

    The insurance will try to fuck you over as much as possible, for example not paying when they receive a paper too late (e.g. a Doctor's note after more than 7 days) - I'm having that fun right now and have more than 1 month unpaid.

    @saucyatom you talk about receiving a paper. As it's Germany, I take that as you actually have to send a physical paper as the internet is not yet a thing.

    @electrineer reminder that the two slowest industries to adopt tech are finance and medical

    @saucyatom wtf? That's vastly different from what I remember. Looks like I have some self-education to do.
    My extra insurance pretty nice tho, once activated they request papers (signed a waiver) and deal with all that stuff themselves and will pay until they discover themselves I'm working again + a month migration. How well this works.. I hope I'll never have to find out.

    @electrineer Generally, yes. A law has just passed that will make this process digital. Depending on your insurance you might be able to upload it as well, after signing up.

    @Kimmax I wish I had that extra insurance! But Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to get any private health insurance due to having a chronic condition.

    @arcsector damn. Shitty situation

    @Kimmax I guess I should rant about this asshole insurance which loves bureaucracy so much that they deny me >1000€ over it. Personal note: Stay away from anything IKK.
