@NotWhoIUsedToBe self employed or not, we all still pay tax, we all have to adhere to rules and laws we don't like or agree with and we all (at least probably all) have no real power. We're slaves.
-
Last time I checked most of us are not being forced to do shit against our will. My ass ain't picking cotton in some dudes field getting whipped or punished for whatever reason why the females around me serve as the entertainment (sexual or otherwise) for the rich dude/lord in charge.
Paying taxes and having to earn money to do shit ain't slavery. Nor is working the same shit as slavery. -
@AleCx04 I'd hope you're not a human cotton picker, otherwise you probably downloaded the wrong app. Unless you're a nomad or some sort, just because you haven't got chains around your ankles doesn't means you're not controlled and not a slave. Whether you want to believe it or not.
-
@GetToTheChopper it is not about recognizing it or not man. Thinking that we are slaves because what? we need to work and pay taxes and follow the law?
I guess if i ever get hit by a drunk driver that didn't obey the law I will say "wow, the dude is so not a slave, he said fuck the law"
or maybe if i go to the movies and select to not pay my ticket I will just give them the excuse that i don't fall under their notion of modern day economical "slavery", I mean, cuz I am a maverick, an outlaw a freeeee man -
@GetToTheChopper and you are probably confusing working out of your own volition with being a slave.
Level with me then, why are we slaves? -
sebach1845ySlave is for me a man who is being forced to do something. All the time. Without prize (or desired prize).
If you work for your employer instead of making your company, that's your decision.
If you pay taxes, you're forced, yes, but you're not a slave. That's so dramatic. And im from Argentina, here taxes arent cute. -
@AleCx04 I'm not even talking about working at all. Whether you're on minimum wage or a small fortune it doesn't matter either. Slavery is way deeper than what you take home or how many hours you work. Both of those are optional. Although I'm sure a lot of people still feel trapped and worked like a slave in that environment. Without being a complete sadist, I think everyone should be able to do whatever they want to do, as long as they're not causing harm to others. Unfortunately we're all forced into submission by own own governments
-
@GetToTheChopper slavery is defined as being the property of someone else and being forced to do shit out of being property. In what way are governments forcing you to do shit other than the rules specifically put in place to not fuck with other people? In what context are you referring to when you say slavery man? This is what makes me trip with what you are saying.
-
@AleCx04 What about this definition.
(Law) the state or condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his life, liberty, and fortune.
Yup. Yup. Yup. -
@GetToTheChopper that did not answer my question(s) at all, nor did it contradict anything that I said. In what way is the government forcing you to do this? in what way is anyone holding you to stay in whatever country you are? what prevents you from moving into an inhabited island? opening your own business? owning a house? etc?
The whole "slave" thing just sounds like some edgy idea more than anything else really. -
@AleCx04 my response was to the question you asked "in what context are you referring to when you say slavery". If you look at it as more of a slave to _the system_, where governments do as they see fit, bend the rules to their own agenda and don't listen to the people and couldn't really care about them either. They lie and pay of the media, penalise everyone for the slightest infringements whilst they're getting away with murder, they constantly violate everyone's privacy and are completely untrustworthy. I just think everyone should be a little more skeptical.

HAHAHA, these comments here are exactly the conversation I have with myself when thinking about this.
